ANZPT7 Sydney Day 2: Nino's adventure

^

Adelaide's Nino Qualita has had one hell of an adventure at the ANZPT Sydney.

In fact, it's one of the more bizarre stories we have ever heard at a poker tournament.

It started out when Qualita won an online satellite at PokerStars to win his way into the Main Event. Qualita was thrilled to get an opportunity to take a shot in a major tournament.

However upon arriving in Sydney, Qualita had forgotten one important thing - photo identification.

It's something so simple but without it, there was no way for Qualita to receive a Player Card from The Star and therefore no way to collect his ticket. And without a ticket, he couldn't take his seat in the tournament.

Aiya!

Qualita had a decision to make. There was no way to get a refund, so his choice was to forget the tournament and simply enjoy a weekend away in Sydney, or do the unthinkable...fly all the way back to Adelaide to collect his ID.

Australia isn't a small country and last minute flights aren't cheap, but if Qualita wanted to play the ANZPT Main Event, those were the options he was presented with.

Qualita hopped on a plane back to Adelaide and pondered his decision. Once he arrived back home, he got on the phone and spoke to ANZPT Events Manager Sam Dawson to get the details about the situation, knowing that he wouldn't be able to make it back to Sydney again until the start of play on Day 2.

Dawson explained that his stack would be entered into play at the end of late registration on Day 1B which was the end of level 6. It would then have to fend for itself as it blinded out the final level of the day. It was estimated he'd have around 15,000 left.

Qualita hung up the phone and all indications were that he was going to forfeit his stack and blind out of the tournament. Flights were expensive and his chances in the tournament were going to be slim with a 15 big blind stack on Day 2.

It looked like the dream was over.

But then Qualita thought again about the opportunity he was missing and the classic "chip and a chair" story that Dawson recollected to him.

A few minutes later a text came through to Dawson's phone.

"You've inspired me Sam. I'm going to play!"

Qualita ended up with 14,700 in chips in his bag at the end of Day 1B, as he packed up again and headed back to Sydney with ID in hand.

When Day 2 started today, Qualita still hadn't arrived and we feared that he night have changed his mind again. But another reassuring text message and a few minutes later, Qualita took his seat to commence his ANZPT journey on the felt.

By the time we noticed he'd arrived and wandered to his table, we were informed that Qualita had already managed an early double up to get himself back to around 15,000 in chips.

For a moment it looked like we might have a comeback story for the ages. Could Qualita really come back from missing an entire day of play, and three flights to and from Adelaide, to go all the way and win the ANZPT Sydney title?

Sadly, no.

After folding for a few orbits to get his money's worth, Qualita moved tables and was eliminated a short time later. We're not sure the details of his demise, but at least when he gets back to Adelaide, he'll have an incredible story to tell.

And next time he wins an online satellite for an ANZPT event, we're pretty sure he'll remember to carry some ID with him!

Not Many Jackpots Hitting At US Friendly Online Casinos

Bodog Casino
Bodog Casino
It has been over a month since the US crackdown on online poker sites, but the effects are still being felt around the world. Many online casinos that had previously taken US players stopped doing so after Black Friday, and it is the players that have suffered.

It used to be normal to see five to ten jackpots a day hit at US friendly casinos, but since the indictments of PokerStars and Full Tilt, the jackpots have slowed. Conventional wisdom says the jackpots have slowed because less online casinos are serving the US market.

"Any time there is a major shakeup like the one that occurred several weeks ago, it is a natural progression that other sites are going to be cautious for a while when it comes to accepting US players," said Online Casino Expert Noah Black. "This will likely go on for another couple of months, and then we should see action pick up again at the online casinos."

There are still a handful of jackpots that have been hit over the weekend at US friendly casinos. Lucky Red Casino had a jackpot of almost $5,000 hit on their Lucky Red : New York game. Manhattan Slots : Soho paid a smaller jackpot of $2,842.

Bodog Casino had one of the larger jackpots hit this past week on their Let 'Em Ride poker game. The $104,397 jackpot showed that gamblers may have shifted from traditional online poker sites, to casinos that have variations of the game such as Let 'Em Ride.

The poker game was popular this past week not only at Bodog, but also at Club USA Casino. A jackpot of $172,887 was hit on Friday. Club USA also paid jackpots of $2,197, and $6,161.

Golden Casino Says Poker Is No Joke Without Joker

We all love Golden Casino for many reasons. They offers tons of great games, slot tournaments, daily online casino bonuses, and attentive customer service. One game found inside Golden Casino was not as loved as the rest. Joker Poker.

Joker Poker video poker game is colorful and easy to play. Anyone who has played online video poker before knows it is a simple game of 5 card poker. With a title Joker Poker, one would think that there are jokers inside. Sadly if there were, they were hiding today.

With the lowest possible hand, Kings or Better, players are sitting and waiting every deal for a Joker to grace their presence. When they don’t, it makes them wonder, What game am I playing again?

In a half an hours time, playing 4 handed, I saw the joker 6 times. That is it. Maybe they should change the name of the game to Sometimes Joker Poker. Although the Joker was not a frequent visitor, every now and again some made hands were dealt that kept me in the game.

The wager limits are pretty good too. They range from $0.25 to $5.00 per coin, up to 5 coins, per hand, up to 4 hands per deal. These limits make the max wagers between $2.50 and $100.00. So there is a little something for everyone.

So today the Joke was on me. Joker Poker video poker was a joke inside Golden Casino, at least this time. I will be back though, because lets face it, Golden Casino offers some of the best video poker out there, among other things! Good Luck!

Possibility of Regulated Online Casinos Making Strange Bedfellows

Land-based US gambling companies were once the sworn enemy of foreign online casino operators, but the potential change in US law has the two sides getting chummy with each other.

OnlineVegas.com! Online casino operators, tempted by the potential billions that may be made if and when the US regulates Internet gambling, are devoting substantial resources to preparing for the time when US licenses become available. Among the maneuvers being made are the alliance of overseas Internet gaming operators with US land-based casino corporations.

Only a short time ago, such companies as Harrah's and MGM were the arch-enemies of foreign online gambling operators, resisting the new source of competition. VBut as the landscape of US regulation develops, both sides are finding a use for the other.

The passing of the UIGEA in 2006 scared many legitimate gaming companies out of the US market. Persecution and harrassment by the Department of Justice continued the pattern, leaving only a few aboveboard companies operating in the US among dozens of shadt outfits. The law effectively made predictions about online gambling come true, as criminals benefited from the ban and exploited the unintentional result, a block only effective against transparent and listed operators.

"When the act was signed into law, we stopped taking wagers from the US and effectively gave up 75 per cent of our business in one go," said John Shepherd of PartyGaming, one of the companies eager to return to the US, in a statement to Bloomberg News.

Because US regulation will carry requirements that likely favor the domestic land operators already under state regulatory rules, overseas online casinos receive an advantage by partnering with US interests. Likewise, the experience and knowledge acquired by UK and other Internet gaming concerns make them attractive to land casino execs unfamiliar with Internet operations.

Harrah's and 888.com already have agreements in place for European business, and may become linked for US operations as well. PartyGaming is negotiating with several land casino companies to create a US network when the time arrives, and other online gambling outfits seem likely to partner with US gaming companies.

Action Report: Bettors on Raptors, Wizards to cover

USA Today Sports

Even though there's only three games on tap in the Association Tuesday evening, online shop TopBet.eu is receiving no shortage of action.

In Toronto's clash with Boston, Top Bet has rapidly moved the Raps' chances in their favor. After opening Boston -4, that line has been adjusted a full five points to Celtics +1 as of 2:30 p.m. EST. Sixty percent of spread bettors are currently backing the Dinos.

"This line movement has very little to do with the action we're receiving," said Brad Kennedy, a Top Bet oddsmaker. "The Celtics have clinched a playoff spot and have incentives to lose in order to avoid the Cavaliers in the first round, while Toronto is fighting for third in the East and controls their own destiny."

Total-wise, 68 percent of the public is banking on the contest going under the 208 number.

For Washington-Indiana, 78 percent of moneyline wagers are being placed on the Pacers.

"Despite the heavy action on the moneyline, our bettors don't feel Indy will be able to cover the -7.5 spread, as we're seeing 63 percent of spread activity on the Wiz," Kennedy told Covers.

The Over is getting 68 percent of support, causing Top Bet to bump up its opening 191.5 total to 192 as of this writing.
