Brianm15 stages spectacular comeback to take down Sunday Warm-Up!

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for sunday-warmup-promo1.jpg This week's Sunday Warm-Up again saw the $750,000 guarantee shattered, as 4,412 entrants built an enormous $882,400 prize pool. As always, the general table was a hard-fought affair, lasting ninety minutes before brianm15 came from an enormous short-handed chip deficit to top chip leader witcherd heads up for the title and the additional $10,000 left at the table after a four-way deal was cut. Witcherd, who held the chip lead from the time the general table started until in advance of heads up play commenced, picked up $113,400 for second place while winner brianm15 logged an $85,000 victory.

Frugtplukker was the general table bubble boy, collecting $5,294 for 10th place when his pocket eights couldn't delay. Witcherd came into the overall table with the largest stack, but pocktnizzles and Supa4real were also stacked deep because the final nine consolidated to play for the large money.

Almost once the overall table started, it was time for one of the crucial tournament's scheduled breaks. After a handy guide a rough five-minute pit stop, short stack jouby44 picked up his namesake hand in late position and moved all in with 4♠-4♣. Brianm15 defended his big blind with A♥-9♦, and the race was on. That race led to 9th place for jouby44 because the flop came down 7♣-A♣-6♥ to offer brianm15 top pair and leave jouby44 drawing thin to mention alive. The turn and river brought no help as they came down T♥-T♠, and jouby44 was the primary elimination from the overall table, picking up $7,059.21 for 9th place.

warmup 10.18.jpg

Jordie1982 went out in 8th place in very unlucky fashion upon getting all his chips in as a large favorite over brianm15. After action folded around to his button, Jordie open-shoved with A♥-Q♣. Brianm15 made the decision from the small blind with K♦-Q♠, and Jordie1982 looked poised for a double up, especially when the flop came down 8♠-2♠-6♣. The 7♠ at the turn gave Brianm15 a couple of more outs to the flush, nevertheless it was the K♣ at the river that shipped the pot Brian's way, leaving Jordie1982 out in 8th place ($11,030.01).

It was changing into an evening of nasty river cards, and BillieD was the following victim to be washed away when he ran afoul of chip leader witcherd. At the short stack, BillieD open-shoved with Q♠-Q♦, and super stack witcherd defended his small blind with K♠-5♠. The flop was harmless, coming down 9♥-A♦-6♥, and the 8♥ at the turn was no help to either player. However the river peeled off the K♥, giving witcherd the larger pair, and the last of BillieD's stack to boot. BillieD picked up $19,854.01 to assuage the pain of the bad beat.

Witcherd claimed another victim when his 6♠-6♥ not just held up against kingsofcards all-in, but actually improved significantly along the way in which. Kingsofcards moved all in for an enormous preflop raise from the cutoff with 4♣-4♠, and witcherd called from the small blind with sixes. If kingsofcards was in trouble preflop, the 6♣-J♣-8♥ left him drawing to running perfect cards to stick alive. None of these running perfect scenarios included the 9♦, so when that peeled off at the turn, the king was dethroned and drawing dead. The river was a meaningless J♦, and kingsofcards was done in 6th place ($28,678.01). After that hand, witcherd's chip stack was nearly twice that of his nearest opponent.

That chip stack got even healthier when witcherd busted his third opponent in quick succession, this time putting off bboooommmmmm in 5th place ($37,502.01). Action folded around to bboooommmmmm, who moved all in preflop from the small blind with A♥-8♣. Witcherd quickly called with A♦-T♣, and the chip leader was again within the driver's seat with an opponent all within the. flop of A♠-7♥-Q♦ did nothing to modify the preflop standings, and when the turn and river came down 3♣-Q♠, it was all over the place for bboooommmmmm. The rest four players took a moment to speak about a deal, and after lengthy negotiations came to the next guaranteed money: brianm15 locked up $75,000 even, with pocktnizzles securing $77,484.15. Supa4real claimed $88,000.00, and chip leader witcherd picked up a guaranteed $113,400.00, with $10,000 left for the eventual winner. With the deal in place, the four remaining players settled in to battle for the rest ten grand the all-important bragging rights.

The play was slower than normal once a deal was in place, but after a couple of orbits of probing and folding, pocktnizzles and witcherd squared off for one last fight. Pocktnizzles opened for a raise from the cutoff with 8♥-7♦, and witcherd three-bet from the button with Q♣-J♣. The opposite players got out of the way, and pocktnizzles moved all in excessive. Witcherd made the call, and his overcards improved to a flush draw at the 5♠-2♣-3♣ flop. The Ks at the turn was no help for either player, and witcherd still led along with his unpaired high cards. The A♣ at the river made his flush, and pocktnizzles was done in 4th place along with his $77,484.15 payday.

Brianm15 managed to double through witcherd twice with three players left to transport right into a solid second place, as Supa4real saw his chip stack start to dwindle. After a chain of raises and re-raises, the last of Supa4real's stack went in on a flop of 8♦-6♦-8♠. Supa4real was holding K♥-7♠, but brianm15 had flopped two pair with 7♥-6♥ and made the decision. The turn and river came down 5♠-6♠ to offer brianm15 the entire house and the chip lead as he bounced Supa4real in 3rd place, good for $88,000 after the deal.
Tides had certainly turned for brianm15, who was last in chips with four players left. He went into heads-up play with the chip lead, and it took only a few minutes for him to complete off his penthouse to outhouse story and lock up the additional $10,000 by booting witcherd in 2nd place. The general hand seemed like this:

headsup 10.18.jpg

Brianm15 opened for a raise from the button, witcherd three-bet, and brianm15 called. The flop came down 4♥-2♠-5♣, and witcherd led out. Brianm15 made the call, and the 3♠ hit the turn. Both players checked, and fireworks erupted at the K♥ river. Witcherd checked, brianm15 led out, and witcherd check-raised all in with Q♥-5♦ for prime pair at the flop. Brianm15 quickly called with A♦-9♣, showing the turned straight for the pot and the tournament win! With the additional $10,000 for winning the tournament, brianm15 secured an $85,000 payday, while witcherd still ended up with $113,400 for his work within the tournament. Congratulations to all our final table players and everybody who cashed on this week's Sunday Warm-Up!

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Day 1B Level 1-4 updates (100/200, ante 25)

4:26pm: The whistle's blownThis flight has made the halfway point and a 20-minute break has gotten under way. You will see that level five updates in a brand new post here. --MC

4:25pm: Show one, show allA small argument broke out at table 37 where tensions were running high. There has been a Q♣8♦7♥2♦ board at the felt, Jose Gonzalez had moved all-in for 8,400 right into a pot of 11,650 and Thomas O'Shea was contemplating his decision.

The Irishman who's in seat three, who had chipped as much as 57,500, took a glance at his cards in this kind of way that Vladislav Saveyev, in seat nine, thought that Nick Wealthall in seat four were in a position to see O'Shea's hand. "Show one, show all," said Sayeyev. For the reason that this was a large decision and for the reason that he hadn't seen the hand Wealthall objected to Sayeyev becoming concerned saying: "you are not even within the hand, why are you even getting concerned"?

The floor was called, perhaps somewhat unnecessarily and it was swiftly ruled that play would continue as normal. After about 30 seconds O'Shea called and showed A♠Q♦. But he was behind to Saveyev who had pocket kings and the cowboys hung on the 5♥ river. -- NW

4:15pm: It's that time!

4:05pm: Gavin GoneHe was some of the first players to 30,000 but Fintan Gavin has recently departed.

Louise Duffy kindly filled the blog in at the details. She raised before Javier Mellado three-bet. One player called the bet before Gavin shoved for 8,000 with pocket fours. Mellado was the one caller, holding nines, and held to bust the previous UKIPT champion. -- MC

3:55pm: Tinnion winsThe Spanish for snap call is, in keeping with google translate, 'complemento de llamada'. And that is what Robert Tinnion did when Antonio Vallespi three-bet all-in on a 5♣6♥6♠ flop. The Spaniard had bet 3,300, Tinnion had raised to 6,600, Vallespi shoved for 19,000 at which point Tinnion snap called.

When the cards were turned over Vallespi saw that he was drawing very thin as he held 9♥5♥ whilst Tinnion had A♣6♣. The 7♣ turn gave Vallespi some additional outs but he missed all of them at the T♠ river. -- NW

3:45pm: Gomila and Armesto soaringTomeu Gomila is an excessively well respected player in Spain and is seventh on their all-time money list with nearly $900k in winnings. He is going along nicely today and had gotten as much as 54,000 already.

Also doing well at his table is Marcos Armesto who's as much as around 45,000 after eliminating an opponent. The player in question raised under-the-gun to 525 and was called by Sin Melin within the next seat and Armesto within the small blind.

The flop fanned 7♠3♠3♣ and Armesto led for 1,500 and was called by both players. The turn was the Q♣ and Armesto bet out 3,500 and called after his opponent shoved for 6,500. Melin folded.

Armesto opened 5♣3♦ for trips and held against his opponent's A♦Q♠. -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 100-200, ante 25

3:30pm: Probably the most fallen fewDave Shallow, Jode Urrutia, Vikrum Mehta, Rowan van Embden, Pia Jeppesen, Jaume Alomar, Alejandro Piñeiro, Pablo Martinez and Jonatan Casero have all departed in recent time. Apparently Shallow wasn't really within the mood to play poker today after a large night out last night. -- MC

3:15pm: Chip countsHere's how one of the names and notables within the field are becoming on:

3:05pm: Salter and Slade shaking things upJack Salter and Nick Slade are two of the players within the overspill room that's situated down in a dungeon bar. Both have lower than their starting stacks but both played a pot aggressively to realize some back.

Salter was heads up with Eric Paz and 5,100 had ventured into the center by the turn of a K♦J♣A♣8♦ board. Salter checked to stand a 2,425 bet that he treated to a check-raise all in for 10,400. Paz tanked for 3 minutes before folding.

Moments later, Slade was forcing Leo Margets off a hand to rise up to 14,000. He opened to 300 before the Team PokerStars Pro three-bet to 700 from the following seat. Slade and another called to peer an A♠5♣T♣ flop where Margets continued for 1,100. The third party folded but Slade check-raised to 2,500 and that was enough to wwithin the pot. He flashed 8♥5♥ and raked in the pot. Margets dropped back to 19,000.-- MC

2:50pm: Melin multi-tabling"I sat down on the wrong table," Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Sin Melin told the PokerStars Blog. "I played a few hands before I realised I USED TO BE in Dale Garrard's seat and he was in mine," she continued. To be fair both players are within the 10 seat at their adjacent tables. Her table move seems to have checked her momentum. "I lost 4k with tens against a brief stacks aces once I moved tables," she told the blog. -- NW

2:40pm: Martinez makes a really perfect callAs the PokerStars Blog arrived at Jake Cody's table to peer the Team PokerStars Pro with a stack of 60,000 in front of him a large hand was playing out and the clock have been called on Alberto Martínez.

There was an entire board of 2♥3♠7♦T♥K♠ at the felt and his opponent had bet 10,000, which was enough to set Martinez all-in. The count was under 10 by the point Martinez announced call, his opponent shook his head and showed A♠Q♠ whilst Martinez opened 8♥7♥ for a whimsical call. -- NW

2:30pm: Lappin up chips

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 75-150

2:07pm: Let the light inThe players are actually on a 20-minute break because the first two levels has been completed. -- NW

2:05pm: Business as usual for CodyIt's fair to mention Jake Cody's had an excellent opening two levels...

2pm: Unbluffable does not imply untouchableEarlier on Fintan Gavin claimed he was unbluffable. That statement probably didn't do an excessive amount of good for his image if he was going to continue to bluff, which he always was.

He made it to the river in a heads up pot and a board that rested as 9♣2♣6♠7♦9♥. Gavin fired out 2,100 from the small blind and was called by an opponent within the cut-off. Neither player desired to expose their holding and finally Gavin announced that he had ace high before mucking upon seeing his opponent's J♠9♦ for trips. That put Gavin backpedal to his starting stack.

In other news, Dutch pro Paul Berende has just taken a seat. -- MC

1:55pm: Limp pays off for KirlenkoArtur Kirlenko just scooped a meaty pot, one by which he started the action off by limping from early position. It passed to Simon Hemsworth within the cut-off he also limped just for the the button to make it 525 to go, Andelfo Serrano called from the massive blind after which both Kirlenko and Hemsworth did likewise.

So there has been 2,150 within the pot by the point the dealer fanned a 5♣6♥2♦ flop, action checked to the button who bet 1,325, it was enough to do away with Hemsworth but Serrano and Kirlenko both called. The T♠ turn was checked through and the 5♠ completed the board. After Serrano checked Kirlenko bet 3,550, the button was the one caller, but mucked when Kirlenko showed 4♥3♥ for the flopped straight. -- NW

1:45pm: More exitsA couple more exits to inform you about as Jose Cordero and Pietro Culotta also are out. -- NW

1:35pm: Hemsworth straight into profitSimon Hemsworth has moved as much as around 26,000 chips after he turned a straight against an opponent who flopped top pair.

The final board read 6♣9♣7♠5♦T♣ and the massive blind led for 1,500 and 2,000 at the turn and river with K♦9♠. Hemsworth was within the cut-off and called both bets with 8♦4♦. -- MC

1:25pm: Man downWe've lost our first player and the unlucky soul - or fortunate if he likes sunshine - is Nathan Curtis. -- NW

1:15pm: A Table of PhilsFor some unknown reason, Phil appears to be an overly popular name for prime poker players. There is a couple of Phils playing today and they are on the same table, only the Phil is of their surnames and never their first names.

PokerStars Team Online member Dale Philip has jetted in from Thailand to play and had PokerStars Qualifier Tony Phillips for company.

Phillips was once a typical at the poker circuit and has amassed over $380,000 in tournament winnings. He decided to swap life as a poker pro for a more normal life after he became a dad for the primary time but that doesn't mean he's lost any of the abilities he was renowned for.

Back in 2008 he came tenth in a PLO WSOP event that was eventually won by Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, for her first bracelet. Within the lead as much as the overall table Phillips was on a tear and Selbst admitted later that she feared the young Brit's aggressive style probably the most and was the rationale she took a marginal line to eliminate him early from the general table. Big respect indeed! -- MC

LEVEL UP: BLINDS 50-100

1:10pm: Are you able to catch Cody?Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody is the early chip leader after you have a near double up within the first level. Holding 9♥9♣ he flopped a suite on a Q♥9♠2♥ board and located an opponent willing to commit his chips with A♠Q♠. The board ran out 7♦J♦ and Cody, who was all the way down to around 18,000 on the time, is as much as 36,000. -- NW

UKIPT4 Marbella2 Jake Cody.jpg

Cody finding how to recover from jetlag

1pm: Fintan Gavin the unbluffableWatching Fintan Gavin play, regardless of the tournament stage, is often reasonably-priced for money and today is not any exception. He's already as much as 30,000 after bluffing his neighbour in a large pot.

They were heads as much as the turn where the board read 6♣7♦5♥5♦ and Gavin bet 1,400 from under the gun. His opponent was within the big blind and check-raised to 4,000 before Gavin three-bet to 8,000. The massive blind stared down the Irishman before releasing his hand, only to be shown Q♦8♦!

"I had a flush draw and that i was committed," commented Gavin.

"Wow, I REALLY LIKE your style!" said table mate Louise Duffy.

"I could be one of the crucial worst players here but I'm unbluffable!" Gavin came back with. -- MC

12:50pm: Now that's commitmentAs you're probably aware there is a big tournament series occurring in Las Vegas right now, one who Jake Cody have been playing in. But, the Brit was unlikely to overlook this event.

The first leg of #Jake'sJourney was a five hour flight from Las Vegas to New York, he then had a two hour layover before getting back on a plane and taking a seven hour flight to Madrid. It was then time for an additional hour layover, before taking a brief hop to Marbella on a one hour flight. Here's hoping Cody's tournament lasts no less than as long. -- NW

12:40pm: Two roomsThere's still over four hours of late registration to go, but there are already more players within the field today than the overall number from Day 1A. Because of this the 350 players are split between two rooms, the principle poker site and 'La Cassata' that's a brief walk outside after which down some steps.

There are 15 poker tables currently in use down there with Nick Wealthall, Sam Grafton, Dara Davey, Dara O'Kearney and Leo Margets plying their trade clear of the noises of slot machines. The latter two are sharing the similar table. -- NW

12:30pm: Slow start after a large nightPoker players aren't probably the most punctual of individuals so it comes as no surprise to look the room half empty.

Andrew Hedley is in his seat but he's missing something. He lost his voice after a large night out in town. Rumours are floating around about this big night, with many players in holiday mode, but they will not be shared as what goes on in Marbella stays in Marbella!

Louise Duffy, Joe Whittaker, Paul McTaggart, Gaelle Garcia Diaz, Francisco Torres and Raul Mestre are one of the crucial better-behaved players who appear to be fresh and prepared for eight levels of poker. -- MC

12:15pm: Gift of the GavA thick Irish accent drifted around the casino like jasmine on a summer breeze, a snappy search for (even though it wasn't needed) confirmed that Fintan Gavin had arrived, albeit fashionably late.

12:15pm: Name droppingMost observers reckon that during a tournament with two starting days that Day 1B is often tougher than Day 1A. That theory is backed up by one of the players within the field today. In addition to assorted Team Pros you will see that: David Yan, Sam Grafton, Dara O'Kearney, Duncan McLellan, David Lappin, David Gent and Nick Newport within the field today.

We'll be tracking the names, notables and large stacks over in this chip count page within the day. -- NW

12:05pm: Shuffle up and dealTournament director Toby Stone made some announcements to the players and cards are within the air. -- MC

11:50am: The sun within the fun continuesWelcome back to Casino Marbella for Day 1B of UKIPT Marbella. Everything's been reset; the tournament clock's been wound back to level one, fresh 20,000-chip stacks are out on each table and we've even put the sun back in precisely the similar spot because it was yesterday.

One thing has changed though as an entire new crowd of players might be in attendance. A crowd will probably be too as today promises to way outnumber folks who chose to play Day 1A. Amongst the hundreds could be Pokerstars' Jake Cody, Leo Margets and Dale Philip; Full Tilt's Sin Melin, UKIPT host Nick Wealthall and a bunch of alternative megastar players to wet the appetite.

Cards can be within the air at midday, so join us back here then.

PokerStars joins the GameJam against cancer

Back in March, PokerStars was honoured to be invited by Cancer Research UK to participate in its second Citizen Science Project 'GameJam'. PokerStars employees joined the charity's world-leading scientists and technology gurus from the likes of Amazon, Facebook and Google to assist design and develop a mobile game that might aid cancer research.

The GameJam event was a type of hackathon that brought scientists and the tech community together, with the goal to come back up with a mobile game application to assist process thousands and thousands of pieces of gene data in a fun and tasty way. It's hoped the sport may be played by anyone, from anywhere on this planet and within the process help towards accelerating cures for cancer.

Thumbnail image for PS Spade logo88.jpg

The finished application will allow the general public to play an enjoyable game and simultaneously identify common changes in genes as a result of a gain or lack of chromosomes. This will likely significantly reduce the time it could usually take lab workers to research the data.

Two of our developers, Eric Hibbs and Ravid Rosental, offered to surrender their weekend to work in teams alongside scientists from Cancer Research UK and co-workers from other leading tech companies. Eric, who features within the GameJam video documenting the development said: "THE DEVELOPMENT was amazing. I've always had a zeal for making games. Having the risk to exercise my passion with a gifted co-worker for a really perfect cause was an implausible opportunity. I AM HOPING that I AM GETTING the risk to participate in the same event again, and i am grateful that PokerStars was willing to send me on this type of great adventure."

Play to overcome cancer

As a technology company we're very proud to look that our highly skilled workforce could have an actual positive social impact through this exciting project. We glance forward to seeing the results of everyone's combined exertions and energy and continuing our involvement with this potentially life changing project.

WCP VIII: Day 1 ends hopes of Italian double, resurgent Germany top

PCA-2010-thumbnail.jpg

Who would have thought it? Reigning champions Italy out with barely a whimper. After round one and two performances that left them languishing in ninth position at the leader board, Italy limped out in their title defence with a ninth-place exit within the multi-table madness of round three. An ignominious end to a disappointing day for Captain Luca Pagano, an experience somewhat different from last year's finale.

Italy were first to go away (5 points) they usually were followed by Team Remainder of the arena (10) and Costa Rica (15) before an excellent one-man survival show from Anthony Monestes booked France 20 points for a sixth place finish. That left five nations with Japanese captain Masaaki Kagawa the player shoving but after a pretty good day they fell in fifth (25) leaving Peru to grind on before falling in fourth (30).

The round three final table

Three nations battled on past midnight, greater than six hours after round three began, with the Netherlands up to speed but Boeken doubled up Heitmann as plucky Tajikistan fought on. Tajikistan were the following to move (35) losing a flip to Germany putting in place a Dutch-German heads up. The captains battled for a short time before Klaus Hornchurch despatched Johan van Til to take the whole 50 points completing an epic comeback for Germany who had finished the primary round in last place. They now lead Japan by one point.

1. Germany, 105 points
2. Japan, 104 points
3. Peru, 98 points
4. Netherlands, 97 points
5. Tajikistan, 92 points
6. France, 86 points
7. Remainder of the World, 74 points
8. Costa Rica, 73 points
9. Italy, 55 points (RELEGATED)

UKIPT4 Marbella2: Denis Ursu leads; Jake Cody third heading to Day 2

We knew what to anticipate of the second one flight of UKIPT Marbella, players and plenty of them. Another 457 joined the fray today and whilst you add them to the 293 from yesterday you get bang on 750 because of this the guarantee of €500,000 was smashed. Such was their number that for far of the day the players were housed in two different rooms, only combining under one roof near the tip of the day.

Up until the overall hand of the day a well-known face was on the top of the chip charts as Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody sailed serenely during the day to finish of 131,300. He got off to a flyer, flopping a suite and getting a double up from top pair, a little while later he flopped a greater straight than an opponent and was as much as 90,000. His rise to close the the highest of the tree is in stark contrast to his journey to get to this tournament. It took him three flights and 21 hours to travel from Las Vegas to Marbella, it only took him one flight of poker to climb to 3rd overall heading into Day 2. Read more about his recent exploits here.

Ursu's final flourish saw him claim the chip lead

But, at the final hand of the day Denis Ursu won a 50,000 chip pot against Peter Jaksland to assert the chip lead because because of that pot the Moldovan finished on 146,300 to leapfrog Cody into the lead. He wasn't the one player to wreck during the 100,000 chip mark as Sam Goodman (117,100) and Peter Jaksland (114,600) also managed that feat. Indeed Jaksland would was chip leader but for losing that final hand to Ursu. A DIFFERENT mention to Odd Langset who reached 125,000 chips by level five but was out before the top of level six!

Margets made it through

Cody wasn't the one patched up player within the field today as Team PokerStars was four strong with representatives from both Team Pro and Team Online. Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets was on home turf and she or he safely negotiated her way through to Day 2 with 34,700 chips. She'll be joined by Spanish Team Online member Vicente Delgado. The net wizard had a perfect last quarter to rocket from 46,000 to 97,500 in chips to be well placed heading into Day 2.

The UK's own Team Online wizard, Dale Philip, was in grind mode for many of the day, never seemingly getting his stack into positive territory until the overall level. Indeed he ended the day with 21,900 and can be a type of trying to improve on Day 2.

Garcia Diaz is thru to Day 2

As usual the second one starting flight attracted a number of huge name players some prospered, whilst others can be occupied by the beach, the pool, the football or side events for the remainder of the festival. A few of those through to the knockout stages on Day 2 are: Adrian Mateos (69,200), Gaelle Garcia Diaz (35,900), Paul Berende (50,900), Sam Grafton (53,000) and Nick Wealthall (17,900).

EPT11 Barcelona: The $1,750,000 bubble

What is it with Barcelona and the bubble? Last year there has been no bubble boy, but rather a bubble chair. And this year five players went out at the same hand meaning all of them bubbled the tournament.

Usually, that would've been the tip of it but because there has been a consolation prize of a $5,300 seat to the $10m guaranteed Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (which starts on Wednesday), tournament staff needed to figure out who was the pure bubble in order that they could dish out the spoils. That was not as easy because it sounds.

The bonkers Barcelona bubble plays out

That's since the situation was further complicated because Francois-Charles Scapula and Daniel Studer went out at the same table, while the 3 others - Randal Flowers, Farid Chati and Richard Dubini - went out on separate tables. The standard rule is if two players exit at the same table the player with more chips gets the money, but when players from different tables bust at the same hand then any prize money is chopped. But both had happened, so what to do?

Over to Neil Johnson, PokerStars Live Event specialist to provide an explanation for. "IT IS A rare occurrence that you simply see perhaps once every two-years and there is no specific rule in place for it," Johnson said. "So what myself, Edgar Stuchly and Toby Stone did was return to rule one, that being to behave within the best interest of the sport. We decided that the most suitable choice was to separate the primary four payouts between the five players and play a sit and opt for the bubble prize. I've already sent an email to our four fantastic TDs so one day if this happens, hopefully we'll have a rule in place."

So Toby Stone sat right down to explain to the players that all of them had locked up a €6,440 cash and that there has been a $5,300 seat (and a guitar) to play for. Dennis Phillips, who's acting as a intermediary between PokerStars and the tournament organisers, then piped up.

"A player has to move all the way down to Miami and play," Phillips said. "IF YOU HAPPEN TO win it you'll transfer it, it doesn't need to be you who plays, you'll be able to transfer it."

At this point it was then talked about that they did not even wish to play a sit and opt for the seat in the event that they could come to a few other arrangement. "I'm already registered to play it," Flowers said. "IT IS A re-entry so I'm already playing Day 1B, but when I bust that and win this I'll use it to play Day 1C."

The sit and go gets under way

The tournament, which awarded just shy of $1,750,000 to Blair Hinkle, who won last year, starts in three days and it is all well and good for Flowers, who's American, to be expected to head and play it. But what of the others? They're variously from France, Switzerland, Turkey and Argentina. Studer no less than seemed keen to head should he win. "Oh definitely, evidently I'LL play should I win," Studer said.

With everyone on board for some more poker Stone gave instructions to a different member of his tournament team. "We'll make it a cheap turbo, bring me 5k in chips for every player, a timer and a dealer. I'll make a structure."

He then hastily scribbled down some numbers on a work of paper that was rapidly filling up. It revealed a structure that some Main Events could be envious of. He then showed it to the players and said: "With 15 minute levels this could take an hour to an hour and a half."

When the poker got under way, Chati was first to go, finally capable of collect his Main Event cash, and Richard Dubini soon followed. Three-handed play between Flowers, Studer and Scapula took a while, but throughout, the sit and go was played in a jovial atmosphere with Flowers saying: "Technically whoever wins this seat goes to earn more money than the following first 30 eliminations."

Most pots were played - and won - with a smile, but Studer was eventually dispatched when his A♥4♠ lost out to Scapula's A♠J♥.

Yet the Frenchman faced a 15,000 to 10,000 chip deficit against Flowers when heads-up play began throughout the 150/300 25 ante level. The match swung from side to side with much ribbing. "You should've done it, you should've pulled the trigger," Flowers said when Scapula declined to bet the river with nine high in a pot that was chopped.

By the time the blinds had ticked as much as 300/600 ante 75, Scapula had taken the lead. When Flowers shoved for 11,200 with K♥7♥ and Scapula aroused from sleep with A♠K♦ probably the most protracted bubbles in EPT history was set to finish.

Five cards later it had and Scapula immediately got out his phone and sent a text. A COUPLE OF moments later he punched some numbers in and put the telephone to his ear, perhaps he was booking a flight to Miami?

Scapula played all of the right notes to win

He was certainly smiling, no less than until the cameras began to flash, "I hate the photos," he said. "I DO NOT know yet if I WILL BE ABLE TO visit play it. I'VE a role I only came to play the primary Event," he told the PokerStarsBlog. The 36-year-old from Paris runs his own trading house.

This is purely his third ever EPT and it's his first cash. One thing's for sure, this one can have struck a chord with him. As for Flowers not just was he the double-bubble boy but he was collared by Sarah Grant shortly afterwards for an interview.

Follow the entire action from the tournament floor at the main EPT Barcelona page. There's hand-by-hand coverage within the panel on the top, including chip counts, and have pieces below. There's also EPT Live, that is streaming action from Day 3 of the principle Event.
