The FPS Monaco Main Event final table

Before play concluded we lost one -- Michael Ferrari -- in eighth, meaning seven will return to decide who will become the next FPS Monaco Main Event champion. Here's a little more about each of the final tablists:

Seat 1: Joseph Mouawad (USA) -- 3,220,000

Joseph Mouawad

Married with three children, Joseph Mouawad is a real estate developer originally from Beirut who first began playing poker nearly 15 years ago.

He currently plays about three EPT festivals per year, and brings to the final table the most impressive résumé of tour success highlighted by his win in the EPT London Main Event back in Season 4, earning him a handsome £611,520 first prize. His most recent cash on the tour saw him final table a €2,200 NLHE event at EPT10 Barcelona where he finished eighth.

Seat 2: Gilles Silbernagel (France) -- 3,890,000

Gilles Silbernagel

The lone Frenchman making the final table, 43-year-old Gilles Silbernagel is also a father a three and a businessman who has enjoyed success playing tournament poker.

Considering himself an amateur, he nonetheless has collected several cashes in various events in Europe over the last several years, the biggest coming from winning a €330 NLHE Estrellas event at EPT10 Barcelona where he topped a field of 469 to earn a €30,780 first prize. After two levels he was down to just 2,000 from the starting stack of 25,000, and now Silbernagel sits in third position among the final seven.

Seat 3: Sergio Braga (Brazil) -- 840,000

Sergio Braga

A live cash game specialist, the 49-year-old Sergio Braga's prefered games are pot-limit Omaha and seven-card stud. In fact, he's already tasted success this week in Monaco by winning Event #15, the €500 limit seven-card stud event.

The Brazilian has earned numerous cashes and made many final tables on both the LAPT and BSOP, with a runner-up finish in a BSOP event in 2013 earning him his biggest career score equivalent to just over $60,000. He has hopes of spinning what is currently the short stack up today, perhaps to win as a birthday present to himself as he turns 50 in two days.

Seat 4: Pablo Gordillo (Spain) -- 7,005,000

Pablo Gordillo

At age 20 and sitting with just over 7 million chips, Pablo Gordillo is both the youngest of the remaining players and the one with the most chips to start the final day of play. A finance student from León, Spain, Gordillo has put his studies on hold for now as he pursues what is fast becoming a successful career in poker.

Gordillo won his way into this event via a $215 satellite on PokerStars, where he can often be found playing NLHE tournaments and PLO cash games. Despite his young age, he's already notched some significant tournament cashes, including a fourth-place finish in the EPT10 Vienna Main Event earning him €262,150. He made another EPT Main Event final table in London earlier this season as well, ultimately finishing eighth.

Seat 5: Michael Ferrari (USA) -- finished 8th

Michael Ferrari

Michael Ferrari entered the official final table as the short stack with eight left, and ultimately was knocked out for a €16,750 cash. A commercial real estate developer from San Francisco, California, Ferrari was here playing his first overseas tournament.

Ferrari had notched just a couple of tournament cashes previously, the best coming for winning a $400 Deep Stack Extravaganza event at the Venetian in 2012 where he topped 661 to earn $50,268. It was a tournament he hadn't even necessarily planned to play, but had been in Las Vegas for a wedding and not being able to play a WSOP event decided to take a shot. Besides poker, Ferrari's hobbies include motorcycles.

Seat 6: Luca Moschitta (Italy) -- 1,655,000

Luca Moschitta

The 25-year-old Luca Moschitta has the distinction of having back in 2009 become the youngest SuperNova Elite at age 19. He continues to play a high volume of high-stakes sit-n-gos on PokerStars.it as a member of Team PokerStars Online, and following the path of his fellow countryman Dario Minieri has bought a couple of Porsches with his FPPs.

Moschitta has become a regular on the live circuit as well where he plays along with his girlfriend, Sofia Lovgren. His largest previous live result was for winning the IPT Main Event in Saint Vincent in 2013, a €180,000 score.

Seat 7: Manuel Martinez (Spain) -- 3,950,000

Manuel Martinez is a 27-year-old Spanish poker pro currently residing in London. A cash game specialist for the last five years, he enjoys tournaments as well occasionally.

Martinez final tabled the Estrellas Main Event in Madrid in 2012, finishing fifth for his largest live score of €24,300. He'll exceed that amount should he manage to outlast one other player and make it into the top six today.

Seat 8: Sebastian Supper (Germany) -- 3,520,000

EPT_GrandFinal_FPS-460_Sebastian Supper.jpg

Sebastian Supper

A 29-year-old student from Munich, Sebastian Supper is an amateur who has been playing poker for six years. He qualified online for just €30 to play this event.

Supper has collected a few cashes in Europe previously, the largest coming after finishing third in a 188-player event in Pardubice in the Czech Republic, good for the equivalent of almost $8,500. Supper studies chemistry and geography, with plans eventually to become a professor.

When the final seven return today, here is what they'll be playing for:

1st: €177,000
2nd: €107,500
3rd: €75,400
4th: €56,600
5th: €43,800
6th: €32,700
7th: €23,500

Play begins at 12:30 p.m. Central European Time -- that's six hours ahead of Eastern time, and three hours ahead of GMT. They'll be on the feature table in the main tournament room here at the Monte Carlo Bay Resort and Hotel, with cards-up coverage starting on a one hour delay at 1:30 p.m. locally. That's when we'll pick up our start-to-finish coverage here as well. Join us then to see who beomes the next FPS Monaco Main Event champion.

Pennsylvania’s Online Gambling Market Worth

online poker 33It’s been one year since Econsult Solutions presented its gambling study to Pennslyvania’s Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.

That study concluded that the PA market for regulated online gambling (casino and poker) was worth some $184 million in first year revenue, and $307 million in ongoing revenues.

Since, two of Pennsylvania’s neighbors – New Jersey and Delaware – have wrapped up their first year in the industry, and are deep enough into their second that meaningful year-over-year comparisons can be drawn.

What follows are updated revenue projections for Pennsylvania’s iGaming market, utilizing data from Econsult and other reputable sources, and taking into account existing US regulated market performance.

All projections set forth in this piece are based on the assumption that the bill that ultimately legalizes and regulates online gambling in Pennsylvania will closely resemble State Representative John Payne‘s HB 649.

Payne, who also acts as the Chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee, is arguably the strongest champion of online gaming in Pennsylvania.

Caribbean Stud Poker Continues To Pay Out Online Casino Jackpots

Caribbean Stud Poker
Caribbean Stud Poker
Online casinos have many different games for gamblers to enjoy, and each comes with different odds of winning a jackpot. The slots are the most popular of the games where players go to try and win big money quickly, but Caribbean Stud Poker is also becoming increasingly popular.

What drives the popularity of the games is often the frequency with which the jackpots are hit, and also the size of the jackpots when they are hit. This past week, Caribbean Stud Poker made more fans online when the game paid out a $149,947 jackpot at Bodog Casino.

Just a couple of days after that jackpot was hit, another Caribbean Stud top prize went down to a lucky player at Caesars Casino. Caesars has only recently dove into the online gambling industry, but they have made a big splash in jurisdictions where Internet gaming is legal.

Caesars is one of the major companies that is pushing for online gambling regulations at a federal level in the US. With the platform already in place from their overseas venture, Caesars would stand to be one of the biggest beneficiaries should the laws in the US change.

The slot jackpots have not taken a backseat to the Caribbean Stud Poker when it comes to jackpots. In the past twenty-four hours, there have been some large jackpots hit on popular slot games. The biggest of the day came on a Magic Slots $5 game, where the top prize was hit for $244,084.

The upcoming week should be an interesting one at online casinos with many of the sites offering St. Patty's Day tournaments. Players have traditionally flocked to the St. Patty's events, and this year the casinos are hoping that the players follow their pattern from previous years of entering the tournaments.

Americas Cup returns to PokerStars

acop-thumb.jpgThe great American songwriter Randy Newman once joked, "South America stole our name!"

While Newman was commenting on the jingoistic atmosphere of the times, he might well have been predicting the advent of the PokerStars Americas Cup of Poker (well, maybe not, not, but it's close!). In any case, the Americas Cup is back, and it will pit countries from around the Americas (yes, all of them) against each other for the title.

From March 15-April 14 players from the USA, Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil and Argentina will be battling for spots on their country's team. There will also be a tenth team made up of the remaining Latin American counties.

In all, the players from the ten teams will compete in a series of points tournaments. The four players who accumulate the most points will represent their country at the live final--if their team makes it there.

When all the matches are complete, the six countries with the most wins will automatically qualify for the live final. The remaining four teams will then play off for the final two positions.

Then in May, the eight teams will travel to Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina. There they will compete for a share of $150,000 and the Americas Cup title.

Even if you don't want to spend the pennies it costs to get involved, tickets to the $0.11 tournaments are available in free SNGS that are running all the time in the Tourney-Regional section of the PokerStars lobby.

For a full schedule and more information, visit the PokerStars Americas Cup of Poker homepage.

Good luck!

ANZPT Canberra Day 2: Levels 13 & 14 (blinds 1,500-3,000, ante 300)

^

8:45pm: Ten-minute break

8:25pm: Edwards survives four barrels from Graham

Jarred Graham had been running over his table but he just hit a roadblock in the form of Luke Edwards. It started with Graham min-raising to 6,000 and Edwards calling on the button. Brett Chalhoub came along in the big blind to see a flop of [6c][as][9c].

Action checked to Graham who bet 13,500. Edwards made the call as Chalhoub got out of the way. On the [qh] turn, Graham bet again for 24,400 and Edwards made the call as a big pot was brewing.

The river fell the [td] and Graham released another barrel worth a hefty 36,200. Edwards shrugged and declared a call as Graham tabled [ah][9s] for two pair, but he'd been rivered as Edwards showed [ac][tc]. Graham slips to 150,000 with Edwards pushing 200,000.

8:05pm: Gorr and Vandersluis double; Kerr busto

The short stacks aren't going easily here as we have two more double ups to report.

Andrew Watson's wealth didn't last long as he ran his ace-king into the [as][ah] of Aussie Millions champion David Gorr. The board fell [tc][qd][4h][3s][8d] to give Gorr a big double up to 145,000. Watson is back down to 135,000.

Meanwhile overnight chip leader Scott Kerr is on the ropes after being crippled in unfortunate fashion against Roy Vandersluis. The chips were in preflop with Kerr's [ah][ks] appearing set for a chop when Vandersluis opened the same hand - [ac][kc]. That is, until the board ran out [4s][5c][jd][8c][3c] to give Vandersluis a flush to double to 77,000.

Kerr was crippled to just 8,000 chips which he lost moments later as our day one chip leader was eliminated.

8:00pm: A couple of doubles

Roy Vandersluis has found a much-needed double up when he open shoved for 15,700 with [as][ts] and John Maklouf made the call with [qc][qd]. Vandersluis got some help when the board ran out [jd][3c][2c][ad][jc] to spike his ace and double to 37,000. Maklouf is down to 40,000.

On a nearby table James Broom and Andrew Watson went to war preflop in a cutoff versus small blind battle. Broom went with [ah][js] but Watson held a dominant [ac][ks] which held on the [7d][ad][7h][3c][kc] board. Broom is back down to 110,000 with Watson now looking strong on 203,000.

7:55pm: Morooka coolers the Toothpick

A cooler of a hand has seen the short-stacked Te Wiremu Mcgarvey run into two monster hands as Takahiro Morooka doubled up through Toothpick Tony.

Morooka opened with a raise which Mcgarvey flat called, before Toothpick put in the three-bet. Morooka flat-called as Mcgarvey called all in for his last chips.

The flop landed [8c][ts][2h] and Toothpick bet 14,000 into the side pot. However Morooka wasn't going anywhere as he moved all in for 48,700. Toothpick called it off with [kh][kc] but Morooka held the rockets with his [as][ac]. Meanwhile things weren't looking good for Mcgarvey with his pocket nines.

The turn was the [8d] and river the [7h] to see Mcgarvey eliminated and Morooka more than doubling up to 147,000. Toothpick slips to 80,000.

7:45pm: Level up, blinds 1,500-3,000, ante 300

7:40pm: Double for Maklouf

Te Wiremu Mcgarvey opened with a raise to 5,000 before John Maklouf moved all in for a total of 31,700. Mcgarvey made the call with [as][jc] to be racing with Maklouf's [7c][7h].

The board fell [qc][qd][2h][6c][9s] to leave Maklouf's pair in front for a double up to 65,000. Mcgarvey slips to 25,000.

7:30pm: Holtzapffel sets up Boxell

Leo Boxell's mighty run in the ANZPT Canberra Main Event has come to an end. The fan favourite made the call when Lee Holtzapffel pushed all in on a flop of [6h][jh][7h]. Boxell opened [js][ts] for top pair but Holtzapffel had flopped a set with his [7s][7d].

The turn was the [as] and the river [qc] to double up Holtzapffel to around 70,000 chips. Boxell was left with just a few hundred in chips which disappeared moments later as Boxell hit the rail.

lee_holtzapffel_anzpt_canberra.jpg

Lee Holtzapffel is pretty happy to double up through Leo Boxell

7:25pm: Bain flushes Davey

Tristan Bain has jumped up with the tournament chip leaders in a massive clash with Peter Davey. The chips were in on the turn with the board reading [jh][ah][qs][7h]. Davey pushed with [9h][6h] but Bain insta-called with [qh][4h].

The river was the [9d] and after a countdown of chips, Bain just had him covered to eliminate Davey and jump Bain up to nearly 200,000 chips.

7:15pm: Nice call by Broom

We only saw the action on the river, but obviously Leo Boxell's story wasn't quite convincing enough as James Broom made a pretty heroic call. The board read [td][7d][qh][3d][2h] and Boxell tossed out 18,000 into the middle, but Broom made the call.

Boxell opened [9s][8s] for a missed straight draw as Broom's light call with [jc][7c] was a beauty. Broom is back up to 200,000 with Boxell back down to 50,000.

7:05pm: Moussa takes out a shorty

We've lost our first player post-dinner as George Moussa has taken care of one of the short stacks of the field. Moussa made the call when his opponent moved all in for 8,700. Moussa showed [kh][tc] and was in dominant shape against [qs][ts].

The short-stacked player had already stood from his chair and put on his jacket in preparation of the bad news, which indeed arrived on the [ac][3h][jc][jd][qh] board. Moussa makes a straight to move up to 160,000.

7:00pm: Boxell pulls the stop and go

"Not a bad recovery from 12,000," chuckled Leo Boxell after raking in another pot. From the small blind, he'd called the raise from Lee Holtzapffel to 9,300 from under the gun. They saw a [jc][9h][8c] flop and Boxell immediately moved all in to put Holtzapffel to a decision for his tournament life.

Holtzapffel thought for a long time before folding as Boxell gets himself back to 80,000.

6:45pm: Play resumes

The 32 players have returned from dinner with only a hunger for more chips! Jarred Graham is out in front with Khiem Nguyen, Mario Ljubicic and James Broom the next best.

We'll be continuing this evening until we reach the money for our final fifteen players.
