Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli champ of 12/15/15 Super Tuesday, wins $91K

There were plenty of familiar names going deep in this week's Super Tuesday, among them Stefan "mindgamer" Jedlicka, Raphael "tiarc" Wimmer, Shashank "felter1989″ Jain, and Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka who was making yet another deep run in the weekly event. There was even one of the $1 million Spin & Go winners among those making the final two tables.

In the end, though, it was Argentina's Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli outlasting everyone to earn the win and a nice $91,344.40 first prize. Here's the story of how Sampaoli did it.

The turnout this week for the $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament was almost identical to a week ago, just one entry fewer with 476 players taking part. That meant a $476,000 prize pool (again besting the $450K guarantee), with the top 54 finishers dividing the money.

It took about six hours for the money bubble to burst, and with 54 players left greenblatt1 enjoyed a hefty chip lead with more than 250,000 while the few in the chase pack were all hovering around the 100,000-chip mark.

About 90 minutes later they were down to 18 with greenblatt1 still well in front. Meanwhile in third position was Faraz "The Toilet-0" Jaka, trying to reach a third Super Tuesday final table in the space of just a couple of months. Indeed, while it might be hard to know at any moment just where in the world the always traveling Jaka might be, it's starting to get easy to find him every week going deep in the Super Tuesday.

Stefan "mindgamer" Jedlicka (18th), Vzsolt800 (17th), and quiditbear (16th) were the next players out, earning $4,284 apiece. Then theZeus333 (15th), Grizzlypower (14th), and Raphael "tiarc" Wimmer (13th) were successively eliminated, earning $5,236 each.

Bergtschech (12th) was the next to go, followed by wrawras (11th) who less than two months ago became one of this year's $1 million Spin & Go winners. Steven "SvZff" van Zadelhoff (10th) was then knocked out, and he like the last two earned $6,188 for his finish.

With greenblatt1 still the frontrunner and Faraz "The Toilet-0" Jaka at his third Super Tuesday final table in 11 weeks, they were down to nine.

Seat 1: ErnestAG (Russia) -- 382,459
Seat 2: Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka (Poland) -- 161,855
Seat 3: Shashank "felter1989″ Jain (India) -- 131,512
Seat 4: bob43155 (Mexico) -- 243,931
Seat 5: greenblatt1 (United Kingdom) -- 711,130
Seat 6: garyknife (Sweden) -- 144,744
Seat 7: mikzoan (Israel) -- 131,331
Seat 8: Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli (Argentina) -- 346,965
Seat 9: mmm4x (Germany) -- 126,073

Not long after the final table began, greenblatt1 min-raised to 16,000 from middle position, then it folded to mmm4x on the button who pushed all in for 136,261. ErnestAG then reshoved for nearly 350,000 from the small blind, and both Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka in the big blind and greenblatt1 stepped aside.

mmm4x had picked up an ace with A♣Q♦, but ErnestAG had two of them with A♠A♦. The board came 8♣9♦6♦J♥6♥, and mmm4x was done in ninth.

Just three hands later garyknife open-pushed from under the gun for just over 90,000 (about 11-and-a-half big blinds), and it folded to Shashank "felter1989″ Jain on the button who called all in for a little less than 80,000. garyknife had 9♠9♣ and was hoping the pair would hold against Jain's A♠K♠, and after the five community cards -- J♠Q♥2♦9♥4♥ -- the pair was still good and Jain was on the rail in eighth.

A few minutes after that Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka was the one open-raising all in, pushing his stack of 143,105 forward from the hijack seat. greenblatt1 then reraised from the button, scattering the blinds, and greenblatt1 showed A♦K♦ while Jaka turned over A♥Q♠. The board came 9♥4♥A♣7♦J♣, meaning the kickers played and Jaka was out in seventh.

That makes a first (in October), a second (last week), and a seventh for Jaka in the Super Tuesday, who is rounding out his 2015 in style on PokerStars.

The final six marched onward to the break that came at the tournament's 10-hour mark, at which point greenblatt1 was up over 860,000 with Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli the nearest challenger with a little over 550,000. Twenty minutes later, however, Sampaoli had taken over the lead while greenblatt1 slipped back to the middle of the pack.

Then with the blinds at 8,000/16,000, mikzoan open-shoved from the small blind for nearly 100,000 and got called by Sampaoli in the BB. mikzoan had K♦T♦ and Sampaoli A♣2♠. The board came 3♥6♥6♠, then 5♦, then A♦, leaving Sampaoli with aces and sixes and mikzoan with a sixth-place finish.

Four hands after that ErnestAG open-raised all in from UTG to a little over 160,000 (or 10 BBs) and got one caller in garyknife from the small blind. ErnestAG had A♦6♠ and needed to improve versus garyknife's A♠Q♠, but the K♣5♣T♣Q♦K♥ board didn't provide any improvement and ErnestAG went out in fifth.

The final four continued on into the tourney's 11th hour, then suddenly came two knockouts in the space of two hands.

The first saw Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli raise a little over 2x to 37,057 from under the gun, then bob43155 reraise-shoved for almost 315,000 from the button. greenblatt1 responded with an all-in call from the small blind for just under 215,000, and everyone else folded. It was greenblatt1's 9♠9♦ versus bob43155's A♥K♦, and the 8♣A♠2♥ flop swiftly swung the edge bob43155's way. The turn was the 5♣ and river the 6♠, and greenblatt1 was out in fifth.

On the next hand the blinds had just gone up when garyknife min-raised to 40,000 from the button, then Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli reraise-pushed a leading stack from the small blind. bob43155 folded, but garyknife called all in with the 435,085 behind, showing A♣K♠ to Sampaoli's A♥6♥. Alas for garyknife, the board came 6♠J♠J♦3♦T♠, giving Sampaoli jacks and sixes and stopping garyknife in third.

With that pot Sampaoli added still more to start heads-up play with 1,790,471 to bob43155's 589,529. Sampaoli whittled bob43155 down further initially, then the latter won a small double-up with 9♥7♣ versus Sampaoli's K♦4♦ after going all in preflop, watching both a king and seven come on the flop, then a second seven arrive on the river to save bob43155.

Just a few hands later bob43155 doubled again with pocket fours versus ace-queen, then a while after that pushed up into the chip lead. Sampaoli would grab the lead back, however, after calling all in on a J♠K♣8♦6♣ board holding K♠T♥ for top pair versus bob43155's T♣9♠ for a straight draw, then having the hand hold.

They continued on, reaching the 12-hour mark at which point another break arrived with bob43155 back ahead with 1,259,708 versus Sampaoli's 1,120,292 (with the stakes at 20K/40K/5K).

In the first post-break hand, Sampaoli moved ahead again after claiming a small pot, then on the next hand bob43155 opened from the button with a min-raise to 80,000. Sampaoli responded by three-betting to 180,557, bob43155 shoved all in for almost 1.09 million total, and with just a little more than that Sampaoli called.

progre69: 9♠9♥
bob43155: A♦J♠

bob43155 had two live cards, but the flop came 8♦6♥9♣ to give Sampaoli a set of nines and greatly reduce bob43155's chances for survival. The A♣ turn then gave the latter a pair, but also made the river T♦ meaningless as bob43155 was drawing dead to finish one spot shy of the win.

Congratulations to Cristian "progre69" Sampaoli for topping this week's tough Super Tuesday field and earning the $91K-plus first prize.
