José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas rings up another six-figure score, wins 12/23/14 Super Tuesday

It has been quite a year for Portugal's José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas with cashes and final tables at the Estrellas Poker Tour in Barcelona, the EPT/UKIPT in London, and at EPT Prague as well, not to mention a SCOOP title back in May in Event #37-H ($2,100 NLHE 1R1A) for a better than $200K score. And now Quintas has rounded out his 2014 with a Super Tuesday title, too, after topping a field of 531 to win this week's $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament for a cool $100,890 payday.

Quintas didn't have a bad 2013, either, finishing 25th in the PCA Main Event that year and also winning a €2,150 NLHE Turbo side event at EPT Deauville. That's him below following that win.

The story of GoToCa$hier's latest big tourney cash begins with those 531 entrants in this week's Super Tuesday, thus building a $531,000 prize pool that again bested the event's $400K guarantee. The top 63 made the money, and after almost five-and-a-half hours just 64 remained.

At that point with the bubble having arrived, Team PokerStars Pro Online member Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara tweeted an update to his followers:

A few minutes more of hand-for-hand and the bubble had burst, at which point Kihara was still near the top of the chip counts in fourth position behind leader O"Pazzzo", Aaron "AaronBeen" Been, and ilan-ilan645. Also lurking a little further down the counts as the bubble burst was Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree who'd soon score a near-double to bolt up into the top 20 as the sixth hour neared its end.

But by the end of the next hour Boeree had become short-stacked again, and after losing an all-in versus hummylun went out in 28th for a $2,950 cash. A little over a half-hour after that just 18 were left, with ilan-ilan645 having been knocked out in 25th for $3,186 as Kihara hung on with a short stack. Meanwhile Armaan007, dickler1, and José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas had moved up into the top spots in the counts.

hummylun (18th) and sauce3000 (17th) were the next to hit the rail. Then Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara ran a stack of eight big blinds up against Armaan007 holding [Ad][Kd] versus the latter's [Ks][Kh], and when no help came for Kihara he was out in 16th, like the last two eliminated earning $4,248 for his efforts.

ESTRATEGA 18 (15th), great dant (14th), and zalupondiy (13th) were each subsequently knocked out, picking up $5,310 apiece. $$statestree (12th), Adrijan_S (11th), and Sngwonder (10th) followed, earning $6,372 each, and with José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas the new chip leader the final table was underway.

Seat 1: pyszalek (Poland) -- 426,448
Seat 2: Armaan007 (Singapore) -- 309,295
Seat 3: Aaron "AaronBeen" Been (Mexico) -- 260,634
Seat 4: BuzzzBeee85 (United Kingdom) -- 266,028
Seat 5: dickler1 (United Kingdom) -- 192,437
Seat 6: O''Pazzzo" (Netherlands) -- 175,290
Seat 7: -Rebus1980- (Russia) -- 197,723
Seat 8: ROSTBURK (Sweden) -- 200,031
Seat 9: José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas (Portugal) -- 627,114

About 20 minutes after the final table started, Aaron "AaronBeen" opened from under the gun then a short-stacked BuzzzBeee85 reraise-pushed from a seat over for almost 26,000 (not quite four big blinds). It folded around to pyszalek who shoved all in over the top from the small blind, and after the big blind folded Been stepped aside as well.

It was a race between pyszalek's [Ah][Kh] and BuzzzBeee85's [7d][7h]. A king flopped to put pyszalek well in front, and after no saving seven came thereafter BuzzzBeee85 was out in ninth.

About a half-hour after that Armaan007 min-raised from early position, Aaron "AaronBeen" Been shoved for a little less than seven big blinds from a seat over, and both -Rebus1980- in the small blind and Armaan007 called the push. The two live players checked down the [6s][8c][Tc][2d][8s] board, -Rebus1980- showed [9s][9d], and the other two mucked with Been going out in eighth.

They battled into the tourney's next hour, during which three more would be eliminated.

First O"Pazzzo" fell in seventh in a hand that began with a preflop min-raise to 28,000 by José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas and a call from the big blind by O"Pazzzo". The flop came [Ks][4d][5c], O"Pazzzo" pushed with the not quite 65,000 left, and Quintas called. O"Pazzzo" had [As][4h] for bottom pair, not as good as the kings Quintas had with [Kh][8h], and two cards later O"Pazzzo" was out.

About 15 minutes later Armaan007 open-raised all in from the small blind for almost 124,000 (a little under nine big blinds) with [Ad][4c] and dickler1 called from the big blind with [Kh][Ts]. The flop came [Qc][Ah][Td] to pair both players, then after the [7c] turn the [Ks] fell on fifth street to give dickler1 two pair and knock Armaan007 out in sixth.

Twenty-five more minutes would pass, then a hand arose that saw ROSTBURK limp in from the small blind, José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas raise 3x to 54,000 from the big blind, ROSTBURK shove for almost 380,000 total and Quintas call. ROSTBURK had [As][3c] and needed to improve versus Quintas's [Th][Tc], but the community cards didn't help ROSTBURK who hit the rail in fifth.

The four remaining players made it to the 11-hour break with Quintas leading with almost 940,000, pyszalek next with just over 765,000, dickler1 third with a bit more than 520,000, and -Rebus1980- fourth with a little under 430,000. There was some brief talk about possibly making a deal -- "i've got to do xmas shopping!!" typed dickler1 -- but when the break concluded cards went back in the air and play marched on.

Within a couple of minutes -Rebus1980- and pyszalek were raising back and forth before a [Ts][8s][Ac] flop came, then -Rebus1980- raise-shoved with [As][Jd] for top pair, but pyszalek called with [Ad][Th] for two pair. The turn and river didn't help -Rebus1980- who was sent railward in fourth.

About 20 minutes later a huge hand arose that started with pyszalek min-raising to 50,000 from the button, dickler1 reraising to 100,000 from the small blind, then José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas four-betting to 225,000 from the big blind. pyszalek got out of the way, but dickler1 shoved for almost 950,000 and Quintas called.

dickler1: [Qd][Qc]
GoToCa$hier: [Ks][Kh]

Bad timing for dickler1 whose premium pair was pipped by Quintas, and after the [As][5d][3d][8c][Kc] runout they were down to two.

That huge pot gave Quintas a big edge to start heads-up play with just over 2 million versus pyszalek's just under 650,000. Over the next 15 minutes pyszalek would gain a little bit of ground but was pushed back to just about that same stack when the final hand arrived.

It began with an opening 2x raise to 60,000 by Quintas, to which pyszalek responded with a three-bet to 139,900. Quintas answered that with an all-in push, and pyszalek called with the 493,365 left behind.

pyszalek had [9c][9d] but needed to fade two overcards as GoToCa$hier showed [Ac][Qc]. The [5h][5d][3d] flop and [7s] turn were both safe, putting pyszalek one card within evening the match. Then came the river... the [As]! A better pair for Quintas, knocking pyszalek out in second and giving GoToCa$hier the night's top prize.

Congratulations to José "GoToCa$hier" Quintas for earning another six-figure score on PokerStars by claiming the next-to-last Super Tuesday title of 2014.
