Fabian Quoss has won the 2016 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge, topping a field of 41-entries to win $1,446,480 AUD ($1,024,802 USD).
The German poker pro entered the stacked final in the middle of the pack, but was able to survive to four handed play and then knock Connor Drinan out in a flush-over-flush confrontation. Quoss’ nut flush sent the American pro and his queen-high flush to the rail and catapulted Quoss into the chip lead with three remaining.
Jason Mercier was the shortest stack and soon fell victim to the growing momentum of Quoss when the two got all-in with Mercier holding the A8 up against Quoss’ KQ. The board ran out Q33K2 and Mercier was eliminated in third, earning $602,700 AUD ($427,001 USD).
Quoss took a 7-to-1 chip lead into the heads-up showdown with Ben Tollerene, who beganthe final day with the chip lead. Tollerene hung around for a while but was never able to quite even the playing field and eventually dwindled down to just a few big blinds. On the final hand Quoss moved all in from the button with the KJ and Tollerene called with the J10. Quoss’ king high remained the best hand after the board came down 65455, securing him the pot and sending Tollerene to the rail in second place with $924,140 AUD ($654,735 USD).
Fourth-place finisher Connor Drinan climbed into 13th place in the 2016 Card Player Player of the Year race standings as a result of his deep run, which earned him 255 POY points.
