The European Poker Tour Dublin festival and the World Poker tour Fallsview Poker Classic are now in the books and as a result there have been some changes to the leader board in the 2016 Card Player Player of the Year race. Here is a look at the events that most impacted the rankings over the past seven days:
2016 EPT Dublin €5,300 Main Event
A total of 605 players turned out for the 2016 European Poker Tour Dublin €5,300 no-limit hold’em main event, building a prize pool of €2,934,250. In the end it was 20-year-old Dzmitry Urbanovich who emerged victorious, earning his first EPT main event title and the €561,900 ($632,279 USD) first-place prize.
The Polish rising star was also awarded 1,680 Player of the Year points for the win. This was his third POY-qualified final table of the year, with his two prior scores coming in small prelim events. As a result of his recent big score he shot up the rankings, landing in seventh place with 1,752 total points and $640,093 in year-to-date earnings.
Urbanovich finished 2015 in 10th place in the POY standings, and is off to a great start in bettering that result in 2016.
Runner-up Gilles Bernies scored 1,400 points and €349,800 ($393,613 USD). This big result was enough to move him into 13th place in the rankings all on it’s own.
2016 EPT Dublin €10,300 High Roller
The last big event from the European Poker Tour’s stop in Ireland was the EPT Dublin €10,300 no-limit hold’em high roller.
The tournament drew 185 total entries to create a prize pool of €1,794,500 ($1,978,077 USD). Samuel Panzica took home the largest chunk of that money after he came out on top, capturing the title and the €375,770 ($417,105 USD) first-place prize after making a deal heads-up.
Panzica has now made three final tables in 2016. The 840 points he earned for this latest win was enough to see him climb to 26th place in the Player of the Year rankings, with 1,063 total points and $447,111 in year-to-date earnings.
Panzica overcame a tough final table along the wya, outlasting the likes of Emil Patel (4th – $167,111), Davidi Kitai (5th – $133,256) and Timothy Adams (7th – $74,503).
2016 WPT Fallsview Poker Classic Main Event
The 2016 World Poker Tour Fallsview Poker Classic $5,000 CAD no-limit hold’em main event drew a field of 423 entries to create a prize pool of $1,392,324 CAD ($1,009,388 USD). The exchange rate proabably won’t come into play for eventual champion and Canadian resident David Ormsby, though.
The Ottawa, Ontario local came out on top to capture the $383,407 CAD first-place prize, his first WPT title and 1,440 Player of the Year points. That was enough to move him into a tie for tenth place in the standings with WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open main event champ Christopher Leong.
Second place finisher Robert Forbes also ended up in a tie with the runner-up from that event, Rafael Yaraliyev. Both of those players earned 1,200 for their deep runs in WPT main events and are now tied for 20th place.
