  • The Americas Conference dominate Eurasia in last heads-up "Cube" matches of the @GPL Summer Series.

  • Montreal (Americas) and Moscow (Eurasia) end @GPL Summer Series on top; 6 wks. regular season to go.

Welcome to the weekly rundown of the worldwide Poker League here on PokerNews. On this space, all the past week's results from the GPL could be listed, followed by league standings and a glance on the following week's schedule.

Say goodbye to "The Cube" (for now, at least), because the last of the "Summer Series" interconference heads-up matches played out yesterday. With six weeks of standard season matches left to be played in August and September, the Montreal Nationals ended the summer on top of the Americas Conference, right where they were when the Summer Series began. Meanwhile over the process the summer the Moscow Wolverines pulled sooner than the London Royals to snatch the Eurasia Conference lead.

The summer started with the Americas Conference dominating within the" Cube," winning the primary nine matches in a row versus Eurasia. The overall heat of the Summer Series went similarly, with the Americas' teams taking five of six matches from Eurasia including two sweeps.

As seen on Poker Central, Xuan Liu of conference-leading Montreal beat Daniel Cates of the Berlin Bears two games to at least one. So, too, did the Rome Emperors's Mustapha Kanit earn a 2-1 victory over Byron Kaverman of the Sao Paulo Metropolitans for the lone Eurasia win of the heat.

Scott Ball of the Las Vegas Moneymakers then earned a 3-0 sweep over the Hong Kong Stars' Randy Lew, with the los angeles.. Sunset's Chance Kornuth topping Moscow's Anatoly Filatov 2-1. Jason Wheeler of the brand new York Rounders followed that with a 2-1 win over the Paris Aviators' Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

Anton Wigg of the San Fransicso Rush rounded out Heat VI with a 3-0 sweep over the Royals' Chris Moorman.

The first game between the pair ended abruptly at the ninth hand when both flopped top pair of queens, with Wigg's K-Diamonds Q-Diamonds giving him a greater kicker than Moorman's Q-Clubs J-Spades . A king at the river made two pair for Wigg who shoved, and after a protracted tank Moorman talked himself right into a call and lost.

Their second game went much more quickly, ending in exactly six hands. In that one Wigg turned an ace-high flush, a card that gave Moorman an open-ended straight draw plus a king-high flush draw (both useless as he was in truth drawing dead). Moorman then raised over a Wigg turn bet and was called, then missed the river and shoved as a bluff. A lengthy (and hilarious) slowroll by Wigg followed before he finally called to win. The third game took longer — 46 hands — but Wigg won again to earn the sweep.

Listed below are the effects from GPL Summer Series Heat VI, followed by the standings heading into GPL's Week 9 set to start August 16:
