WSOP 2014: De Meulder takes on role of Last Team Pro Standing

Matthias de Meulder is the last member of Team PokerStars pro or Team Online left within the 2014 WSOP Main Event.

"Oh, is that so?" he said after arriving to his table today.

He has every right to be surprised. WSOP players haven't even hit the money yet, and against every piece of history, it's almost impossible to seek out a member of the Red Spade Brigade.

"We're 50 off the money," he said. "IT WILL be exciting, however the bubble is notoriously long."

De Meulder--one of 2 twin brothers at the team--comes from Belgium. It is a good distance to return and go home with nothing. He hasn't even bothered calling his family to say he's at the cusp of creating it into the money.

"Once we get deeper, I'll start calling," he said.

De Meulder isn't new to this game. He knows the way to handle a bubble. He has fewer than 40 big blinds. He knows he'll must pick his spots.

"Everything greatly relies on the players. If in case you have eight other players seeking to cash, open up your game and check out to steal as many blinds as possible," he said.

But just taking a look at his opponents, it can be more of an issue of looking ahead to a hand. He's got Owen Crowe, Paul Tedeschi, and Nick Yunis at his table.

Nevertheless, De Meulder was on this spot before. He has one WSOP Main Event cash to his name.

"Let's hope to make it a second time," he said, "after which opt for the $10 million, of course,"
