The picturesque town of Saint Vincent, within the Aosta Valley region of northern Italy, is used to very large influxes of tourists. Historically it was for the natural springs on the town that drew the most, which might be thought to have various healing properties. But more recently that population surge have been for poker.
Specifically the PokerStars Italian Poker Tour, the most recent event crowning a brand new champion this week in Massimo Pellegrino, who earned €65,000 and a primary ITP title. That's a great cure for many minor ailments.
Pellegrino topped a field of a few 363 players which, with a buy in of €1,100 combined for a prize pool of €352,110. It marks a career best performance by Pellegrino, from Campobasso in central Italy, who defeated Gianni Bussolino heads-up. For his part Bussolino also earned a career best €48,000 for the runner-up spot.
Saint Vincent was the penultimate event of the IPT's sixth season. The general leg happens in Sanremo, starting on 4 September. For more details of that event, and the tour in general, take a look at the IPT website.
