YouStake Performance of the Week: Rainer Kempe Wins $5 Million | PokerNews

Kempe etched his name within the annals of poker history Wednesday night by taking down the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl for $5 million on the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. He beat fellow German Fedor Holz heads-up and a last table that included legends of the sport Erik Seidel and Phil Hellmuth, high roller regular Bryn Kenney, hedge fund manager Dan Shak, and high-stakes cash game startup Matt Berkey, in an effort to capturing the Super High Roller Bowl crown.
Kempe ultimately outlasted a field of 49 of the most efficient and most richest players at the planet, nursing a comparatively short stack throughout a number of the tournament until he sprung into action late, winning an enormous pot at the final-seven bubble when he flopped set over set against high roller veteran Dan Smith.
Smith busted at the bubble soon after, and Kempe rolled into the overall table with a healthy chip lead, never really on reflection. In fact, he fell only briefly out of the highest spot at the counts heads up with Holz, before regaining his composure, the chip lead and booking the win.
Kempe is probably not a household name within the poker community just yet, but a $5 million win in a high-profile event with live televised coverage at the CBS Sports Network should go a ways towards building him into one.
Only adding to his growing legend, Kempe was even back at it the following day, firing away within the $565 Colossus II on the 2016 WSOP, seeking another seven-figure win in an event that a field size record last year.
This move showed numerous love for the sport and dedication to his craft. Add within the multi-million dollar win and Rainer Kempe was the simple and obvious choice for the YouStake Performance of the Week.
