As 2008 came to a close, we became aware that one of the crucial year's Supernova Elite players was the second one female to ever achieve the highest status. You may also know her online as PokerSnoopy or in person as Millie Shiu. Once we came upon she was now a Supernova Elite, it gave the look of a great time to have her introduce herself to everybody. Millie can be joining us all on the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, but within the meantime, here's all you must learn about PokerStars' second female Supernova Elite.
by Millie Shiu
I first played poker in 1998. At that time, I owned a hair salon in Los Gatos, CA (near San Jose). That year, my friends took me to Bay101 for my birthday and that i tried my hand on the 2-4 holdem game. I won 70 bucks and had a blast playing it, so I MIGHT attempt to sneak clear of my salon whenever I MAY to play. I also ordered a host of poker books online so I'LL learn up to possible. Within a year, I USED TO BE playing 80-160 at Lucky Chances in Colma, CA and decided to sell my salon because I DISCOVERED that I MAY make a living playing poker...and it was alot more fun than running my hair salon!
Over the following few years, I spent alot of time in L. a. on the Commerce playing mostly 100-200 limit holdem. I'D also visit Las Vegas every now and then and play on the Bellagio. During one in all my visits to Vegas in 2002, I met my now husband Ted Park. I knew him from the Bay Area and hadn't seen him in different years, so it was nice to meet up with one another. He also plays poker, so we'd visit Las Vegas 3 to 4 times a year.
In 2004, we were on the town for the WSOP and that i decided to play some events, including the women's event wherein I came 2nd. This was a televised event on ESPN so it was fun to have people say they saw me on tv...there were numerous times I MIGHT be out and those would buy me a drink because they liked watching me on TV.
It was at around this time that I STARTED playing online poker. Ted have been playing online for several years and told me that it was a good suggestion for me to check out it. It was very convenient and the games were excellent. Despite the fact that I ATTEMPTED it, I still preferred to playlive games because I liked with the ability to read people on the table. However the more I played online, I NOTICED you could read players there too although the opposite players weren't physically in front of you.
In 2005, Ted and that i decided to shop for a home in Las Vegas. We had spent the past couple of years spending 4-5 months out of the year living within the Bellagio during tournament time. We'd visit and realized that since poker was either one of our professions, it could make more sense simply to live in Vegas. We moved into our house in October and feature been in Vegas ever since!
Ironically, it was right now that I STARTED playing online poker more often. Outside of tournament time, the 100-200 limit holdem game didn't go each day and the games were often hit and miss. So I STARTED targeting improving my video game. At this time, I played mostly at Party Poker because Ted played at PokerStars and we couldn't play within the same game. By the top of the year, I USED TO BE comfortable enough to play 8 or 9 games at a time...quite a transformation from playing one live game.
After Party Poker closed its business to U.S. customers in 2006, I STARTED playing exclusively at PokerStars. Although I'D still play live on the Bellagio once in a while, I MIGHT now say I USED TO BE an internet player. By this time, Ted didn't play as much online, so I now could play mostly any game I wanted.
In 2007, I became pregnant with my first child. As my pregnancy progressed, I enjoyed spending more time at home, sleeping in since carrying a toddler will also be exhausting. So if I MADE UP MY MIND to play poker, it was now strictly online...it was too tiring to move out to play.
After giving birth to an exquisite female offspring on the end of 2007, I'VE definitely been spending more time at home raising her. So in 2008, I'D often play at PokerStars while the newborn was napping or if she was together with her father. Since I USED TO BE at home more often than not with the child (especially through the first 6 months), I DISCOVERED myself putting in place alot of hours playing online at PokerStars. By accumulating such a lot of VPP points in this time, I DISCOVERED myself within the position to succeed in Supernova Elite status. I reached Elite status by the top of December and get to harvest the rewards very quickly by playing within the 2009 PCA!
I am very excited to go to Atlantis again. Ted and that i attended this event in 2005 and 2006 and we had a good time. Also, since there are such a large amount of pools, we're excited to bring our daughter Ashley there to play--she loves the water! I'M also excited to play within the tournament. Ted is nice friends with Mr. PokerStars himself, Daniel Negreanu, so he has given me a large number of good tournament tips that l can't wait to make use of. Although Ted says Daniel's an idiot and that i shouldn't take heed to his nonsense, I FEEL I'll follow Daniel's tips (these two always fight like little kids--it's like having 2 more babies).
So that's my story of the way I got to Supernova Elite. Hopefully we'll have a possibility to satisfy one another on the PCA!
