According to reports, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced the plan Wednesday. Lawmakers might be tasked with deciding whether to approve an almost one percent hotel room tax increase that might give the stadium a $750 million public contribution.
Two-thirds of Silver State lawmakers must approve the tax hike.
The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee approved it last month.
Sheldon Adelson can be a part of the development, and he would invest $650 million. The Oakland Raiders, who wish to relocate to Sin City, and the NFL would contribute a combined $500 million. The NFL owners meet in January to come to a decision if the Raiders can relocate.
At least 75 percent of householders must sign-off at the plan.
“Now is the time to capitalize at the opportunity before us to take a position in Nevada’s most foundational industry, tourism, by providing for the infrastructure and public safety needs of the 21st century,” Sandoval said in an announcement. “As I'VE said before, we will and must herald a brand new era for tourism within the Las Vegas market, while keeping our citizens and visitors safe, and ensuring our position because the global leader in entertainment and hospitality.”
A site hasn’t been finalized yet for the 65,000-seat domed stadium.
