After taking three weeks off in the course of the World Championship of Poker, the Super Tuesday -- PokerStars' weekly $1,050 no-limit hold'em tournament that routinely attracts the planet's best poker players -- was back in action this week. And almost 11 hours after it started it was Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot of Toronto prevailing over another large, tough field to win the title and a $100,890 first prize.
After the hiatus players were able to get back as a large group of 531 turned out to construct a $531,000 prize pool and simply best the event's $400K guarantee. It could take slightly over five-and-a-half hours for the cash bubble to burst and with 63 players left ReadOnYou had built a large chip lead with greater than 170,000, about 50,000 away from nearest challenger Pascal "pistecaloze" Vos.
About two hours after that they were right down to just 18 with Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot the brand new chip leader with just over 460,000, Tu Ta Tenso? not far back with rather less than 435,000, and ReadOnYou and Pascal "pistecaloze" Vos still within the game hovering around average stacks of 155,000.
It would take well over an hour more for nine more to fall because the tournament crossed the nine-hour mark. athenaum (18th), Christian "weichhart" Weichhart (17th), and ReadOnYou (16th) were the following out, each earning $4,248 for his or her finishes. They were followed by ElCast13 (15th), Roma-Tilt (14th), and vivacite (13th) who picked up $5,310 apiece. And next to head were Sam "aaajack" Chartier (12th), Adam "Roothlus" Levy (11th), and sava-lenivec (10th) who each cashed for $6,372.
With norfair18 the brand new chip leader with just over 560,000 and Pascal "pistecaloze" Vos the quick stack with just over 67,000, the general table was underway.
Seat 1: Tu Ta Tenso? (Brazil) -- 459,730 Seat 2: Georgios "gkap13" Kapalas (Greece) -- 259,059 Seat 3: Aaron "Aguskb" Gustavson (Macao) -- 286,394 Seat 4: norfair18 (Costa Rica) -- 560,546 Seat 5: Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot (Canada) -- 392,992 Seat 6: Konstantinos "arxigos" Nanos (Austria) -- 379,105 Seat 7: klauniq (Czech Republic) -- 70,701 Seat 8: bgame153 (Canada) -- 179,170 Seat 9: Pascal "pistecaloze" Vos (Netherlands) -- 67,303
About 10 minutes into the overall table the blinds were 4,000/8,000 when it folded around to the small blind and the table's short stack, Pascal "pistecaloze" Vos, who shoved for his last 35,303 and Tu Ta Tenso? called from a seat over.
Vos had A♣8♦ but had run into the A♠Q♠ of Tu Ta Tenso? The board came 2♥7♦2♦J♠T♥, and pistecaloze was done in ninth.
A couple of orbits later they were within the same level when Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot opened with a min-raise to 16,000 from middle position, then klauniq reraise-shoved for 52,501 from the cutoff seat. It folded back to Talbot who called, turning over A♥4♦ to klauniq's A♠Q♦.
Both players had an ace once more, but this time the player behind preflop would win because the board came 4♥T♠8♠9♣9♠, pairing Talbot's four and sending klauniq railward in eighth.
Play continued, then at the first hand after the 10-hour break the blinds were 6,000/12,000 when bgame153 open-raised all in for 144,987 from early position, then Aaron "Aguskb" Gustavson reraise-shoved from the button to force both blinds to fold.
bgame153 had 7♥7♠ but Gustavson had Q♥Q♦, and after the J♦T♠T♦T♣A♠ runout, bgame153 was eliminated in seventh.
Just three hands later Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot opened for the minimum with a raise to 24,000 from the cutoff, then Georgios "gkap13" Kapalas three-bet all in for 159,712 from the button and Talbot called.
Kapalas had A♠6♠ and needed help against Talbot's K♥K♣. However the board ran out 9♦4♦6♣7♦J♦, and Kapalas's run had ended with a sixth-place finish.
Four hands after that Aaron "Aguskb" Gustavson open-pushed his last 13 big blinds from UTG and got a single caller in Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot at the button.
Aguskb: A♠T♥tonkaaaa: A♦J♠
The community cards came nine-high -- 2♠7♣9♠3♣8♣ -- and Gustavson was knocked out in fifth.
Nearly a half-hour passed with the general four continuing to battle and the blinds moving up again to 8,000/16,000. Then a hand arose that saw Konstantinos "arxigos" Nanos raise to 32,000 from the button and get callers from both Tu Ta Tenso? (small blind) and norfair18 (big blind).
The flop came 6♠A♣A♦, and it checked to Nanos who bet 34,554. Tu Ta Tenso? then check-raised to 69,108, and after norfair18 called Nanos stepped aside.
Both remaining players checked the Q♣ turn. The 7♥ then fell at the river, and after Tu Ta Tenso? checked norfair18 pushed all in for 259,490 and Tu Ta Tenso? called in no time. norfair18 showed 9♣6♣ for aces and sixes, but Tu Ta Tenso? had trip aces with A♥2♦ and norfair18 was done in fourth.
Six hands passed, and then Tu Ta Tenso? had a large lead with nearly 1.76 million, Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot was next with almost 720,000, and Konstantinos "arxigos" Nanos was the quick stack with just below 178,000.
On the following hand it was Talbot open-raising all in from the small blind and Nanos calling all in from the massive blind. Nanos had A♣6♠ and was prior to Talbot's K♣5♠, however the 7♦K♦K♥ flop changed the location swiftly, giving trips to tonkaaaa. The turn was the Q♣ and river the 8♥, and Nanos was out in third.
Tu Ta Tenso? began heads-up with as regards to a 2-to-1 chip advantage with 1,756,573 to Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot's 898,427. Because the pair got their duel started, Talbot took to the chat box to invite a matter inspired by his opponent's username:
tonkaaaa: tu ta tenso ?Tu Ta Tenso?: naoTu Ta Tenso?: =)
Indeed, neither player seemed particularly tense as they proceeded, and after several hands Talbot had chipped as much as narrow the space between the 2. Then came a hand that saw the pair exchange several bets both before and after the flop, then Talbot pushing all in at the turn to force a fold from Tu Ta Tenso? and claim the chip lead. Soon after claiming a pair more big pots tonkaaaa had built a large chip lead with greater than 2.1 million while Tu Ta Tenso? had slipped to simply over 510,000.
That's when Tu Ta Tenso? opened with a 2x raise to 36,000 from the button, tonkaaaa made it 90,000 to head in response, Tu Ta Tenso? shoved for 508,962 total, and Talbot called.
tonkaaaa: J♦J♣Tu Ta Tenso?: A♠J♥
Tu Ta Tenso? was searching for a saving ace, however the board rolled out T♥Q♠4♠2♦J♠ and it was in all places -- Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot had won.
