UKIPT4 Isle of Man 2: Day 1A Level 5-10 updates (600/1,200 ante 200)

11:50pm: Done for the dayDay 1A is completed! Approximately 47 players from the 145 who entered the fray remain. Of these Donald Rae is top of the pile with 154,900. A wrap of the day's play is at the way. -- NW

11:37pm: Final four hands...The end of level ten approaches and the TD has asked the dealers to deal four hands - no more, no less - out to the remaning 47 combatants.

News of the general chip counts will come shortly following the close of play... -- RS

11:30pm: Davey on the doubleAfter a raise to 3,200 from Terry Jordan in mid-position, Dara Davey, who's top of the UKIPT Season 4 leader board, moved all-in for 30,500 and Jordan made the call.

Davey: 6♦6♥Jordan: A♥J♣

The 5♣9♥6♣5♠A♦ board favoured Davey and he doubled. -- NW

11:25pm: Close but no cigarThe last level of the day was the last level of the tournament for: Dara O'Kearney, David Nuth, Jorge Carvahlo, Johan Ekdahl, Konstantin Karikov, Dariusz Paszkiewicz, Ross Marshall, John Finnighan-Linkins, Oliver Fabian, Mahmood Rasheed and Shola Akindele.

Roughly 57 of the 149 players who started the day remain. -- NW

11:15pm: Prescott straightens out WagstaffFull Tilt Poker Ambassador Dermot Blain was keen to inform me a couple of hand that had happened at his table and it soon became clear why. Within the hand in question Mark Wagstaff, who had a deep run at EPT100 Barcelona, had raised to 2,500 with pocket kings, Michael Prescott had shoved for roughly 30,000 with king-jack and Wagstaff had called.

"He's in concerning the best shape he can also be in," said Blain to me. "THAT MAY BE until the flop was , he (Wagstaff) then turned a king however the river was a brick." After the hand Prescott is as much as around 60,000 whilst Wagstaff was left with just 25,000. - NW

11:05pm: Assorted countsAs we go through the general level of the day, listed here are some notable counts from the felt. Just 57 remain now.

Josh Hart - 145,000Ludovic Geilich - 105,000Fatima Moreira de Melo - 95,000Simon Deadman - 56,000Sam Grafton - 52,000

Grafton - one man who won't go quietly into the night

10:55pm: Radio Grafton taking no prisonersThere's always one man certain to provide a gradual stream of uninhibited commentary at their poker table. Players equivalent to Daniel Negreanu, Roberto Romanello, Phil Hellmuth like to pontificate on subjects all over. Well Sam Grafton can certainly rank himself with that illustrious elite group.

Everyone else could be wilting because the day draws to an in depth but Grafton appears to be drawing on some mystical internal powers to maintain himself and his table entertained.

Moments ago, he engaged in some light-hearted ribbing of Mickey Petersen after the Dane check, called a flop before folding the turn.

"Check, call, check fold - that is the name of your autobiography. Check call, check-fold - The Mickey Petersen story!" -- RS

10:45pm: The history of the Isle of ManDid you already know the Isle of Man has got older rocks than a senior's poker event?! Actually it has history dating back to 6,500 BC.

PokerStars TV's Sarah Grant decided to take a better have a look at one of the historical sites here at the Isle of Man.

Blinds up: 600/1,200, ante 200

10:45pm: Deadman scoops three-way all-inSimon Deadman is as much as around 75,000 after winning a three-way all-in. After a brief stacked player shoved for around 12,000 with K♦9♦, Kevin Butcher shoved all-in excessive for 41,000 from the small blind with A♥Q♠ just for Simon Deadman to name all-in for 30,000 from the large blind with A♣J♦.

Deadman was in trouble, he had only a 19% chance of winning the hand however the 6♣9♣T♠Q♣4♣ meant he hit runner-runner to survive, Butcher shook his heads on the turn of events as a possible boost to 87,5000 disintegrated at the river and he was left with just 11,000.

Dominic Mahoney is on the same table and said: "lucky he's the nicest man in poker," at Deadman's luck. Mahoney is doing really well himself after flopping a straight with 6♠4♠ on a 3♦5♦7♣ flop and getting a double up against A♦J♦. He's got 81,000. -- NW

ukipt4 isle of man 2 day1a simon deadman.jpg

Deadman - nice man and nice stack

10:35pm: De Melo looking good yet againThis season there were two near misses with regards to Team PokerStars Sponsored players winning a UKIPT Main Event title. Liv Boeree narrowly missed out in Edinburgh in January 2014 and some months earlier Fatima Moreira de Melo also fell at final hurdle when she finished runner-up to Duncan McLellan here within the Isle of Man.

She looks primed for one more deep run as she just got a double up within the most classic of races. She had cold four-bet to 13,000 over a raise, Simon Deadman's three-bet and a flat call. The unique raiser and Deadman both folded, but Oliver Fabian then moved all-in for around 40,000. De Melo asked Fabian if he held aces, before tank calling the shove with the same sized stack. Fabian flipped A♠K♣, whilst De Melo held pocket queens. The board ran out eight high and De Melo's handheld to eliminate Fabian. She's since won a couple of small pots to climb to 98,000. -- NW

10:20pm: Livshitz fails to bridge equity gapGabi Livshitz just raised, only to seek out the shortish stack of Roger Lu moving in over the top.

Deciding he needed to call given the price, Livshitz did so that you". probably aren't far behind," Lu said, revealing pocket tens.

"I think I'M"! replied Livshitz with a cheeky grin, showing down A♠3♠.

Needing some the aid of the poker gods, there have been no presents forthcoming and when a humdrum flop, turn and river transpired, Lu had doubled to 35,000 whilst Livshitz was all the way down to a still-respectable 45,000. -- RS

10:08pm: Cruel river scuppers CramDarren Delahunty has already amassed a monster stack and the addition of Heath Cram's remaining chips to his pile has only augmented his standing.

Cram's unfortunate demise saw him raise preflop, peeled by Delahunty in position.

Seeing a K♥5♥6♣ board dealt out, Cram bet 3,500 - and Delahunty called.

The turn brought an innocuous 2♦ - both players checked.

Come the 4♥ at the river, Cram waited a couple of moments before moving in for his remaining circa 12,000 chips.

If Cram felt somewhat secure, having rivered a straight with A♠3♠, his optimism would has been shaken as Delahunty made an insta-call. No surprise then when Delahunty turned over the rivered flush with J♥Q♥.

"Harsh river," commented tablemate Sam Grafton (24,000) as Cram shook hands and departed.

The rampaging Delahunty as much as 95,000. -- RS

9:55pm: Chip counts AN ORDINARY Day 1 at the UKIPT is eight levels so usually the next players would have a troublesome luck story about having almost made Day 2 before valiantly falling within the last level of the day. Because it is, Mun Tong Wei, Tomasz Raniszewski, Christin Maschmann, Jamie O'Connor, Chris Straghalis, Frase Macintyre, Simon Child, Gary Whipp, Richard Burton, Jennifer Shahade, Cormac Moylan, Dominic Evans, Neil Callow, Colin Lovelock, Paul Ellis, Norbert Berent, Christopher Argento, Paul McTaggart, Micahel Booth, Paul Febers, Diego Gomez, Edward Ramshaw and Heath Cram all fell a few levels short. -- NW

Blinds up: 500/1,000, ante 100

9:33pm: Break it up folks! That's eight full levels of poker within the bag, For some that might constitute an entire day's play but our players listed here are tougher than that and can continue their struggle for dominance for one more two entire levels.

They are being given a fifteen minute break to consolidate and marshall their thoughts and effort for the overall push. Tally ho! We'll be back soon. -- RS

9:30pm: Chip counts Listed here are how the names, notables and massive stacks amongst the rest 81 players stack up:

Dermot Blain - 18,000Terry Jordan - 55,000David Lappin - 45,000Eugene Katchalov - 48,000Mark Wagstaff - 16,000Willie Tann - 45,000Neil Raine - 22,000Paul McTaggart - 16,200Sam Razavi - 21,000Katja Spillum Svendsen - 15,200

9:21pm: Prescott set for successMichael Prescott was hovering around his starting stack before achieving a greater than useful double-up to send him flying up the leaderboard.

Holding pocket tens and vying with Terence Jordan for the pot, he was delighted to look a board of A♠T♠8♣ appear. He bet 1,175 in position - Jordan check-calling.

The 7♦ at the turn saw Jordan now break the pattern, betting out 2,200.

Prescott had a take into consideration this before picking up his 17,000 remaining chips and plonking them over the road definitively. All-in!

Jordan took a couple of moments before making the decision with A♣9♠ for high pair and the open-ended straight draw, in bad shape versus Prescott's set.

There was a possible bad beat story within the making but if the 3♠ brick appeared at the river, Prescott was within the giddy heights of the 40,000+ club. A toothy grin told the tale of just how he felt about that! -- RS

9:12pm: Spinks bites the dustOn the best way to the Isle of Man Jon Spinks told the PokerStars Blog that he'd been pulling a large number of 18 hour days over the last three weeks because of playing WCOOP and searching after his baby daughter. He was, therefore actually waiting for catching up on sleep and he'll have that opportunity tonight as he's just busted Day 1A of the principle Event.

After a raise to 2,000 from Gary Lawther in early position Andre Wagner smooth called and Spinks then shoved for 9,625 from the massive blind. Both players smooth called and the flop came 3♠8♦2♦. After a check from Lawther, Wagner bet 10,000 and Lawther released his hand.

Spinks: A♠K♦Wagner: T♦T♥

The 4♠ turn and 2♥ river were no help to Spinks, but he'll likely be back tomorrow after some much needed rest. -- NW

9:01pm: Rae of lightDonald Rae is actually a person within the ascendancy right now, his stack an outstanding 93,000 as he makes an assault at the six figure men leading the best way.

His most up-to-date coup say him check-call turn and river of a A♠Q♦9♣K♣9♥ board, delighted to seek out at showdown his two pair K-Q was good for the pot, despite having been counterfeited at the river.-- RS

8:50pm: A TALK with Max SilverEarlier today PokerStars TV's Sarah Grant caught up with UKIPT champion and newly-wed Max Silver. They discussed his recent nuptials and the Player of the Season race, by which Silver currently lies second.

8:40pm: How go Team PokerStars?Another member of the Team PokerStars family has hit the rail as Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano is out. The Italian got it in with pocket eights against aces and queens and didn't hit, although the queens did. Of these still in Christophe De Meulder is flying the flag highest as he's as much as 60,000, Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo has 40,000, that is a couple of thousand greater than Eugene Katchalov, who's on 37,000 and an even bit greater than Mickey Petersen who's got 14,500.

De Meulder's leading the PokerStars charge

And it might be remiss of use let alone Lee Jones, who's one of the members of Rational Group staff playing. "Please mention I HAVE 44,000," he told the PokerStars Blog, before adding. "It'll probably be my high watermark for the tournament." -- NW

Blinds up: 400/800, 100 ante

8:30pm: Chip leaders and exitsMidway during the seventh level of the day the clear chip leader is David Hill, he's from the Isle of Man and is obviously enjoying home advantage as he's as much as 128,500. That's a way away from Darren Delahunty who's on 94,000 and Yury Gulyy who's on 75,000.

At the opposite end of the scale, Marvin Weiland, Bruce Williamson, Gregory Humphries, John Handley, Thomas Ross, Max Silver, Gary Blakemore, Mark Burns and Team PokerStars Pro Matti De Meulder are among those who've busted and can must try again tomorrow. -- NW

8:24pm: Some notable chip countsA little soupcon from the tables; listed here are the chip counts for these persons of interest.

Ludovic Geilich - 68,000Gary Clarke - 42,000Sam Grafton - 23,000 -- RS

8:15pm: Maschmann at the riseAny Christin Maschmann fans disappointed at her earlier cooler can enjoy the reality she is rising from the ashes like a phoenix - back to over her starting stack.

Most recently she raised to 1,500 preflop, called in two spots before her c-bet on a T♠5♣5♦ saw both players within the pot melt away like butter over an open fire.

Up to 21,500 Maschmann is showing her mettle and poker chops here. --RS

8:01pm: Auditorium filling upAs more players bust but remain behind to sweat their friends and percentages, the seats that border the playing area are beginning to fill with eager, chatty faces, creating more of an ambience within the previously fairly quiet arena.

The blinds are actually a corpulent 300/600, there are more players stressed and one slip of concentration can easily lead to a knockout. The increased buzz filling the hall combined with the increasing blind pressure have ramped up the ambience and there are a couple of more tense visages peppering the tables as we go through level 7. -- RS

7:48pm: Mast-er of the feltSimon Deadman has already carved a fearsome reputation out for himself within the poker realm, having amassed $1.4 million in winnings at this relatively early stage of his tournament career.

After a slow start here, he's accumulated steadily and is now as much as 46,000.

Maximilian Mast however has Deadman in his sights, recently winning a pot after peeling from the large blind following Deadman's under-the-gun raise to 1,500 - the pair checking the 9♠5♣3♥ board.

Come the 3♥ turn, Mast sprung into action, leading out for 2,600. Deadman called.

The rivered 5♠ saw Mast now bet out a corpulent 8,300 and Deadman gave the problem some thought before throwing his hand away.

"Nice hand," he offered though Mast was in no mood to ensure his read, mucking quickly.

Mast is now up amongst the chip leaders with an outstanding 92,000 at his disposal. --RS

7:30pm: Motorcycle madnessOne of the things that the Isle of Man is legendary for, with the exception of PokerStars of course, is motorcycles and the TT Race. Someone who straddles both arenas is local lad Conor Cummins. He played the six-max event last night, but racing commitments this week means the principle Event was a no go. The PokerStars Blog caught up with him earlier though to talk about adrenaline, sanity and the Isle of Man TT.

Blinds up: 300/600, 75 ante

6:30pm: Level 6 ends- Dinner breakThe end of the extent six means the players are taking their scheduled dinner break.

We'll be back for level seven in a single hour. See then you definately! -- RS

6:29pm: Maschmann mashedHolding A♠K♠ Christin Maschmann just went to war, calling Ross Greig's 13,000 shove, only to receive the bad news that she was in bad shape as he held the K♣K♥.

A board of 8♦4♠2♠ looked promising for Maschmann - her equity rising with a flush draw, but ultimately she was to be disappointed because the board bricked out with the 3♥ and Q♦.

Maschmann drops to 8,000 whilst a releived Greig is as much as 25,000.

"It's never easy, is it?" he observed wryly. -- RS

6:25pm: Early bathThere's no easy solution to say this but: Gareth Mcintosh, Gary Dickson, Kevin Butcher, Rene Hochmuth, Michael Jones, David Tierney, Steven Powell, Guoxiao Zhang, Daniel Fargher, Mark Lane, Benjamin Jones and Mike Adamo can all take a longer dinner break as they've busted during level six. -- NW

6:15pm: Martin hit within the HartRational Group Staff member Quentin Martin got off to an ideal start but it's just been checked somewhat as he lost a large pot to Joshua Hart.

On the river of a K♦Q♠5♦6♣4♣ board Martin bet 8,000 right into a pot of 19,000, Hart re-raised all-in for 17,800 total and Martin called off the additional. Hart rolled over J♣T♣ for the rviered flush, whilst Martin showed K♣K♦ for a flopped set of kings that got cracked at the river.

He's right down to around 27,000 whilst Hart is as much as 48,000. -- NW

6:05pm: Tann turns up the warmth and activates the charmWillie Tann has seen and done all of it in relation to poker and as his stack continues to rise inexorably, he's sharing one of the vital experience gleaned through the years with the table.

Tann recently chipped up, calling a 2,100 bet at the turn of a 9♦8♣7♦T♦ board before announcing "No diamonds!"

The A♦ appearing at the river caused Tann to laugh out loud..."The best diamond appears!" - before he called an additional 2,500 at the river.

"Just the J♦," his opponent announced - Tann showing down the A♠[Q♦ to say the pot and rise to 56,000.

"No diamonds!" an incredulous Jon Spinks exclaimed. "What were you hoping for then?!!"

As the tabletalk drifted onto other subjects, the infamous Mike Caro was mentioned - a person on whom Willy Tann was keen to voice an opinion.

"He was a joy to play with. Once I knocked him out of the tournament I USED TO BE so sad!" -- RS

Tann riding the run-good

6:00pm: Fargher bows outDaniel Fargher was short and with the pressure on, he made a move to chip up by shoving from the small blind over Craig Sewell's hijack open.

Fargher had chosen the pretty-looking K♣J♣ to tug the trigger with, but if Sewell showed down A♦J♠, much of his equity dissolved and things were looking dicey.

A flop of 5♥4♣5♣ re-invigorated his chances briefly but all hope dissolved because the T♥ at the turn and A♥ at the river snuffed out his slim opportunity for a double-through.

"It's not been an even day for me!" Fargher said laughing as he grabbed his things and exited post-haste. -- RS

5:55pm: StackedIt's goodbye to Steve O'Dwyer, Stuart McDonald, Gary Trees, Mark Baxter, Rocco Palumbo, Derek Miller, Joe Grech, Matuesz Zbikowski, Christoph Koehnen, Team PokerStars Online's Vicente Delgado, Ian Marmion, Rafael Lopez and UKIPT Champion of Champions Richard Evans. -- NW

5:45pm: Jordan crunches KatchalovTerry Jordan has a name for loose aggressive play and the Londoner certainly left Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov flummoxed after the 2 of them clashed in a hand. At the turn of a Q♥2♥8♥9♠ board Katchalov (big blind) bet 2,200 just for Jordan (button) to lift to 4,500, call from Katchalov. At the 7♣ river Jordan bet 4,500 and after a shake of the pinnacle Katchalov released his hand. He's right down to 17,000 whilst Jordan is as much as 55,000. -- NW

Blinds up: 200/400, 50 ante

5:35pm: Davey dents DeadmanDara Davey and Simon Deadman are UKIPT heavyweights and find themselves seated a couple of tables apart at table 13. Earlier on it appeared that it was definitely going to be unlucky for Deadman, who had dropped to around 11,000. He's since recovered but just clashed in a pot against Davey. The Irishman, who currently sits atop the UKIPT Season 4 leader board, raised to 600 from early position after which called when Deadman made it 1,600 from the cut-off. The T♠8♥K♠ flop was checked through and the 3♣ fell at the turn.

First to behave Davey bet 1,500 and Deadman flicked in two 1k chips to suggest a choice. The J♣ completed the board, Davey led for 4,400 and after a tank Deadman let his hand go. The 2 had just a little of post-hand analysis and although I COULD NOT hear what hands that they had Deadman said: "Could've gone in pre after which it would've been gg." After that hand Davey is as much as 28,000 whilst Deadman drops to 23,500. -- NW

5:25pm: Martin defying the oddsOne of the numerous Rational Group Staff members who've ditched their day job, for today at least, is Quentin Martin. Despite finding himself at a difficult table including Dara Davey and Simon Deadman, he's off to a flyer and is as much as 48,000. - NW

5:15pm: Geilich run up leadboard interruptedLudovic Geilich is a hard man to forestall once the wind is in his sails, as he showed in winning UKIPT Marbella last year.

Already as much as 53,000, it appeared like he was about to run through this field within the opening levels, but he just faced his first major setback of the day.

We joined the hand at the turn of a K♦9♥8♥6♦ board - Geilich leading for 5,500, called by Gary Trees and Darren Delahunty.

A dangerous-looking 7♦ at the river saw both players check to Geilich, who bet 5,500. Trees called but Delahunty now surprised everyone with a check-raise all-in for 25,000 or so.

"Sick," said Geilich, rubbing his hand through his hair unhappily. Eventually he threw his hand away (as did Trees) - rewarded for his fold, as Delhunty showed down A♦8♦ for the nut flush.

Geilich still well placed with 42,000 whilst Delhunty rises to 45,000. -- RS

5:01pm: Fatima smells a possibility PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo is worked up together with her impressive 50,000+ stack and is merrily chirping away at her table.

Matthias De Meulder looked to take the wind out of her sails by joking he would pay her €2,000 to be quiet.

"I'll do it in case you go buy some deodorant," de Melo insta-fired back, showing her wit is as sharp as her poker play.

Put in his place, De Meulder laughed but backed down, perhaps realising he might struggle in a smacktalk face off along with his Dutch nemesis. -- RS

Verbal skillz pay da billz

4:45pm: Streets of furyDaniel Johnson has just taken a large chunk of chips from Diego Gomez to rise to over 31,000.

The hand opened with Johnson raising to 700 from middle position, Gomez calling from the massive blind.

Johnson led the A♦5♦2♣ board for 1,400; Gomez check-called.

The turned J♥ saw Gomez check-call an additional 3,300 from Johnson.

Finally an interesting-looking A♣ at the river saw Gomez check and Johnson tank, before picking up his remaining 9,200 chips and firing them over the line.

Gomez called quickly, only to appear disconsolate as Johnson showed down 5♣5♠ for a flopped set, improved to a whole house. Gomez sadly showed a lone A♥ before mucking his other card.

Gomez all the way down to 11,000... -- RS

4.35pm: Back within the saddleThe players are back of their seats and level five is under way here on the Villa Marina. Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo would've definitely been smiling in the course of the break as she won an enormous hand ahead of the tip of level four to climb to 50,000. She flopped a flush and was up against UKIPT4 Dublin champion Kevin Killeen's flopped set and Peter Ross's flush draw. When the latter also turned a couple all of the chips went in, the river blanked and she or he eliminated them both.
