Rao appointed director of software services and platforms for NanoLumens

Underscoring the increasingly important role that beacons and other interactive technologies will play in the next generation of visualization, NanoLumens, the industry-leading manufacturer and innovator of LED display solutions, announced the appointment of renowned product development specialist Vishnu Rao to director of software services and platforms, reporting to NanoLumens CTO Gary Feather.

“The next generation of visualization is going to be as much about software services and platforms as it is about hardware,” Gary Feather said. “We are honored to have Vishnu join our team. His nearly 20 years of experience in operationalizing large, embedded mobile and web service deployments that enable connected consumers and businesses is going to help us to achieve our long term goals and objectives in this critical area.” 

Vishnu Rao comes to NanoLumens from Sharp Electronics, where he served in a number of leadership positions throughout the last 15 years. His focus has been on new product development for Smart TV platforms, strategic marketing for over-the-top services, and establishing technology and business partnerships. While at Sharp, he played key roles in the strategy, planning and development of Sharp’s Smart TV and mobile platform bringing cable – satellite TV, over-the-top streaming media and a wide selection of third-party applications into a one-of-a-kind interactive visualization experience. Vishnu was also responsible in bringing the world’s first remote assist platform to consumer LCD TVs, allowing specialized agents to calibrate and personalize consumer displays over the internet. Most recently, Vishnu led the sales and marketing team on the development and successful launch of Sharp Roku and Google TV. Over the years, Vishnu has been awarded numerous U.S and global patents in user interface, connected platforms, big data and server technology.

Rao holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Communication Engineering from Mysore University and a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Portland State University.
