According to 2006 World Series of Poker main event champion Jamie Gold, roughly $200 million will be bet on the upcoming presidential election. Gold appeared on Fox News this week to talk about the betting odds (video below).

After being introduced as an “expert odds analyst,” Gold explained that betting lines on the race help predict the result in a way that exit polls at this stage simply cannot.

“When people are betting real money, they are actually going to vote for whoever they really bet on…The betting line and odds have, historically, been a much better indicator of who is going to win,” Gold said in the short segment.

Though betting on the race isn’t legal in America, there are sports books in Europe that take action on the event. According to Gold’s estimates, Hilary Clinton is currently -140, followed by Donald Trump at +250 and Marco Rubio at +800. In Gold’s opinion, the former Secretary of State is a huge favorite.

Then there’s Bernie Sanders at +1500, Michael Bloomberg at +4000, Ted Cruz at +8000, Jon Kasich at +10000, Joe Biden at +10000 and Mitt Romney at +20000, according to Gold.

Gold made a poker comeback of sorts last summer when he made the final table of a $1,500 no-limit hold’em event. The result came a couple of years after his 2006 main event bracelet was auctioned off online for roughly $65,000.
